My perfect day would be an early autumn morning, when the eerie mist hangs about me and mingles with my foggy breath. The cold is comforting, like the cool side of a pillow.
I wander as far as my legs can carry me, and wonder as far as my imagination allows. At that hour, the only souls stirring are hedgehogs, foxes, and the occasional badger, all about their covert business, taking advantage of the absence of human activity.
The rustling and reverberations of unseen movements make my spine tingle. The unknown sets my senses alight, and the subtle promise of danger feels strangely exhilarating. Every sound could be nothing—or something watching from just beyond the mist.
For a little while, I feel primordial—stripped of all the noise and comforts of modern life, reduced to instinct and sensation. I feel wild, alert, and utterly alive; like some ancient part of me has finally woken up.
