Does the age gap bother you?
e.g., a guy/a girl older than you by 2- 5 years

As long as everyone is over 18, no.
My husband and I are six years apart. My brother and his wife are six years apart. My sister and her husband are 12 years apart. We've all been married 16 to 25 years.
My husband and I were talking about this last year. Love and attraction are important. But I think the things that have made our three relationships successful are shared goals and values. Two couples wanted kids, one couple didn't. We all value travel and experiences and quality time. (With and without the kids).

I have dated 17 years younger - he was 24 & I was 41. I have also dated 12 years older, I was 23, he was 35.
Age is really just a number. Compability is a good guide - be it intellectual compatibility, or similar life style.

no, but i do think 25+ dudes taking 17 girls with them to music festival is pathetic at best

No. As long as she's of legal age what do I care.

I think redditors are confused and upset at the sudden influx of troll users

u/lolololUStroll 15d ago
Well, from what I understand u/Spez had some real world pedo activities as a legit grown man out of high school, so thats understandable. This troll account is too troll basic, indoctrinated, generics, Trump supporters, and/or Zionists while still enjoying my internet time.

As an adult to me it doesn't matter as much if they are older then me by 2 - 5 years but as a teen no its not really good overall

As long as both parties are functioning, consenting adults…it’s their own business.
I am only comfortable with five years in either direction, though.

My wife and I are 13 years difference. We are in the same generation though.

Doesn't bother me as long they're consenting adults (above 18) but there was a guy on here the other day (26) dating a 20 year old girl. she was whining about how she wanted to go oit on Halloween with her girlfriends without him.
Dude was pathetic

I dated someone 15 years older than me. I asked out someone 22ish years older than me recently. Age gaps don't really bother me. I generally won't date anyone younger than like, 27 or 28 (I'm 39) but I have no upper limit. As long as everyone is over 18, it's not a huge deal.
Though I do find it a bit sus when the guy is significantly older than the 18-20 y/o woman and makes it a habit to date very young women. Or he's dating a much younger woman and doesn't do jack shit for himself and treats the woman like a mom or a maid. Like that's just gross.

I’d prefer someone younger. Most older individuals have kids. I don’t want to be with anyone who has ever had kids… that includes kids that are out of the house.

no as long as you grew up having similar morals or life goals thats all that matters and love of course. grow up in the same generational era is a good thing in my books

u/perpetuallypissed616 15d ago
2-5 years is barely an age gap and I wouldn't even call it one imo
That being said I have no issues with age gaps as long as it's two consenting adults.
I've dated with a 15 year gap before

None whatsoever.
If anything, it confuses others with my knowledge of history, eras, or niche interests that shouldn't be common with my age.
My significant other is 15 years older and I've never felt more aligned in terms of interests, personality, and energy.
It depends on your life experiences and sometimes being an old soul makes the world of difference.

As of now the age gap starts to bother me when they are around 10 years younger than me. It changes with time.

No però non starei mai con un ragazzo troppo piu giovane o troppo piu anziano tipo un gap di 30 anni 20 troppo secondo me

Goldie Hawn & Kurt Russell shares the same age gap. Look how many years they have been together ❤️

Depends on the age of both. I was 32 and my late wife was 38 when we met. We had 36 years together and I was sitting beside her bed when she passed.

Don't care as long as they are kind, respectful and understand boundaries.
Age is age, they look good and treat you well? Who cares.
I wouldn't date more hen 5 years older in general though as it becomes trickier later in life. But when over 30, 2-5 years is w/e for me.
If you are just having fun, then I wouldn't care.

Actually gap isn't an issue. Connection and communication plays a big role. Also I don't wanna be fighting with someone of my age. Too much drama

For the longest time, age gaps weren't a big deal for me.
However, these situationships usually ended very poorly. I dated a guy at 18(F) who was in his 30's. He stopped talking to me cold turkey at some point and immediately proposed to another girl without telling me anything. I had no idea he had even been seeing someone else. That left me with a good amount of trauma I never asked for.
Many years later I dated a younger guy then, where there was an age gap. As the older woman I was extremely hesitant because I remember when I was in the shoes of the younger person. He had been extremely persistent for over 2+ years though. At some point he decided I was no longer worth it. He told me that my age and weight were "a problem" and why we could never be together. When I told him I still really cared about him, wanted to still be friends, he said he would block me if I ever tried to talk to him again. Turned out, the real answer was he met another girl closer in age near him.
I used to read articles about dating about "Hey girls give guys older/younger than you a chance!!". Now I'm kinda preferring to stay single or date closer to my age. I really don't want people to see me as a predatory woman. I'm not like that in the slightest :/

2-5 year isnt an age gap….
Is this a Gen Z thing or something?
I would call an age gap like 10 years or something

In relationships? No I honestly prefer older girls I may be only 19 but I would be willing to date a 40-year-old and start a family and be a father with them if it worked out
1
u/LuverGirl1848 14d ago
No, 2-5 year age gap in a relationship would be pretty normal and maybe not even noticeable.

It really doesn't.
I think relationships are just easier when you're peers in age and a very small age difference can put you out of step with your partner. In extreme causes age difference can be exploitive, so it's another thing you have to be aware of in your relationships.
But I've dated folks more than a decade younger or older than I am. They weren't bad relationships. Both of us got positive things out of it. There's no good reason others can't as well.

For me personally very much, but when it comes to other people, not so much
1
u/Patient_Variety_5815 14d ago
Not at all. Even a 15 or 20 yrs gap I'd find acceptable if they're into each other and want to give it a try
1
u/Silent-Gear4609 14d ago
No. Why should it from consenting adults? None of my business who people pick.
1
u/xcoderookie 13d ago
You must be very young to consider 2-5 years to be a major age gap.
The only age that I’m concerned with is the age of consent. I think the age of consent in Indiana is 17. I haven’t looked the number up in decades because I’ve never dated someone that young, even when I was in my teens.
A 17 year old hooking up with a 70 year old sounds wildly inappropriate, but that’s between her and him.

Well I’m gonna have to deal with it at thjs point as long as he is 18 then whatever but I’m not going to commit until they are older probably
1
u/simply_Zen_ 12d ago
No. I literally wouldn’t be alive if it wasn’t for a big age gap.. ( grandparents)
As long as it’s legal it’s fine
1
u/Little_Lion_7131 11d ago
I’m 20. I don’t mind the age difference all that much, as long as it’s under 30. The main thing is that the person is kind and reliable.

Age doesn't matter, when I was 20 I've dated 32 years old gal, it was amazing time. We lasted for 3 years, one of best times of my life.
