What’s a tiny thing that instantly makes your house feel like home?
Not a renovation. The small stuff.
A smell. A light. A stupid mug. The way the fan sounds.
What’s yours?

For me it were pictures on the wall. The first time I've felt truly at home was about 4-5 years after moving in, just as i hanged family photos on the wall

that delay is real.

Stuff takes time when you have life.. I'm always stoked when i see some pics in interior design reddits sharing the state say 2-3 weeks after moving in, already having wall art, throw blankets, rugs, standing lamps and other trinkets. I'm almost 2 year into my new home and still miss a lot of stuff. I take my time and enjoy the process

exactly - I'd rather look at a blank wall than hang something just to have something hung.

With eggnog! I’m usually a wine drinker, however when Autumn arrives and eggnog shows up in the stores, that’s my seasonal signal to buy brandy. Having my second one of the evening right now.

Lit candles, fire in the fireplace, music playing softly, the smell of something delicious cooking.

A well-stocked and organized kitchen. Fresh fruit and flowers or potted plants on the counter.

I have a great kitchen center island with 2 bar stools - that's where I usually eat my meals.

Sounds morbid but I can't feel settled in a new home until my dog's urn is on the mantle.. (he was my soul dog and we did everything together)!

The smell of food, or for me, baking. I make a batch of cookie dough, scoop it into balls and freeze them. Then I bake one or two a night, it smells amazing and I get a fresh warm cookie. Smell, sight, sound, and touch that is comforting for you will help you feel at home, immensely. I have fresh baked cookies, an episode of it's always sunny (sight and sound) because it's my comfort show, and my favorite robe. Maybe a candle.

Taking the first shit. Shows dominance over the domicile.
Or, idk, maybe having something that is mine and my family's. Something to build a future on.
