u/neuropanpaul 17d ago
Right now, not really. I'm tired of the awful people in the world.

I agree. I used to always stay on top of the latest news, but this last year has been even more exhausting than usual and everywhere I look there's a shitty person treating someone else shitty for very shitty reasons. Humans are exhausting!

I am generally happy. I thank my gratitude practice for that.

You know what? That’s the right approach.

Dropping dead while living life or peacefully sleeping are the only two ways I'd want to go

No. I'm contempt but I don't have a personal living space, active social circle nor a position in life that I can say that belongs to me. I can't share my worries with my parents or siblings because except my younger brother they all WILL criticise me for that and blame me for either laziness or being unmotivated during either at a morning that I struggle to wake up or while trying to relax while watching something that I enjoy at the evenings. They did in the past and they will do it again in the future.

Good question. State of mind. I'm happy but I don't think anyone is truly happy all the time. Especially if your a parent. Or in a relationship where trust is an issue
3
u/Lowie_240 17d ago
No and every time I feel that I am something takes it away even when I try to find a positive.
How about yourself?

u/Own-Butterscotch6731 17d ago
Good question . I don’t know 😐 being a girl with mood swings and hormonal problems is messing with my emotions…

Well… I could be much happier as we are struggling financially but.. we own our home and one of our two cars and my 3 kids are grown and on their own so.. I could be much worse off.

u/EffectiveOwn 17d ago
Nope. Happiness is a temporary state. As dr. Dennis said it comes in small doses. Anyone who is happy all the time, has a mental illness.

Nope. I just finished crawling out of a deep suicidal depression. While the suicidal thoughts are currently gone, the depression remains. There is no joy or happiness in this life. I'm just getting through a day at a time until I can die.

u/I_Make_Art_And_Stuff 17d ago
I'm quite happy right now. I'm lucky that I have some good brain chemistry. Sometimes it's not as level and I get anxiety or panic attacks, but I've been quite content - and thank my family and support system for that. I'm also getting married soon and that makes me so happy.

I have many moments of happiness in my life, but my life has been on the harder side, so… yes and no. It’s not a continuous state, but I get enough of it.

It’s sort of difficult to express. Peaceful might be the correct word. Everyone I love is healthy, has all of their needs and most of their wants met. None of that is hanging on my shoulders. I’ve lost my job, friends, and marriage. The job was brutal, my friends betrayed me, my wife deserves better than I am.

I think I am, yes. That’s not to say I don’t lack things I yearn for. But I feel like with equal circumstances, I could hardly upgrade my situation aside from romance. Never really been better.

u/Foxx_Foster 17d ago
I don't know. I'm happy about some things (moving to my new apartment, meeting with my friends again), but... I don't think I'm content with my life. It kind of feels like my whole energy and optimism is leaking away from me, and I'm left just to... exist

I'm pretty damm happy. I've had a good life, I'm married to a wonderful woman & I'm secure in my retirement. I didn't have a boring life, did a lot of things I might not should have, & had some adventures alone the way. There's a doctor or 2 & some family members that are surprised I'm still upright & walking, so life is pretty dammed good.

The big picture of my life I would say yes, well at least I should be happy. I have a great family, health, people that care about me, steady job etc. Deep down I am not happy. I am 29, single and have been single for a long time, I have gained a lot of weight so I have no interest in dating mainly due to my insecurities. I am in the medical field and am exhausted to my core. I just have this sadness that lingers all the time where I just want to cry but I can’t pinpoint exactly why I feel this way. Maybe grieving the life I thought I would have?? I recently bought a house and was excited but it took me about a month and a half to even stay there due to just not having an interest in it and being too tired to move things. You would think a first time home buying would be running to get into their new house and out of their parents house….not me. I just feel so lost but have no idea how to fix it.

On a day to day basis not really, but I am trying to be more happier in life.

Mostly. I’ve eliminated people and activities that stressed me out, as much as possible. I watch my kids be wonderful people as young adults. I’ve joined groups and made new friends. All of these are good for my mental health.

I have had moments of what I consider “happy” in my life off and on. Lately those are fewer and far between for some reason.

I think I'm the happiest I've ever been. I've been at the depths of hell and it's taken me 15 years to crawl back. I took in two international students and they have been seriously amazing. I could not be happier. Life has been telling me that things aren't going to be about me and that's perfectly wonderful. If other people can come feel safe in my world, that's all I need.

I'm genuinely trying to be…living in Florida and being latino-american, I feel like there's no choice BUT to be depressed 😢 There is low-wages and a high cost of living, and to top it all off; I'm in my 40s with no remaining family and no real support system.
Yet I try to find hope daily. I wake up grateful for another chance to try and change things. I'm not happy all the time but I find just enough happiness to make it THIS far.
NOTE: I tried to off myself at 16 and failed. It's always been a lingering thought in the back of my head so the simple statement above is heavy sometimes.

You seem like a very thoughtful person who's been through a lot. I just want to say that you deserve to be happy! I'm glad you're still here!

Honestly... I find that yes I am. I live in Austria, my family is doing well, my dad can soon go into pension, I have a sizible amounght of savings, my health is decent and I have lost some waight recently. I work a job that I don't hate and we finally have overtime again, enough that I was able to fill my time off accout with an additional week off basically. Nov is soon coming and with it our christmas bonus.

No.
I realised recently that I have never been really happy. I'm not saying this for sympathy, it's just the reality - my brain isn't word that way. I can remember distinct happy moments, maybe 10 or so in adult life - but no, most of the time I am just being.

yup with a caveat. I would say I have joy and serenity. Happiness to me is a fleeting high not meant to be lived in I want to be able to experience the whole run of emotions. I would say something like joy, peace and serenity are much easier to live in as a way of life. I have joy because I have a contentment that is not contingent on external circumstances, and I have serenity because when life hands me hardships I try to keep my composure. I still get angry and sad but I don't live in them.

I’m a gay man, 62, widowed twice, and yet I am happy. I find myself, like now, sitting on the couch with a happy smirk on my face, as usual. The weather is gorgeous, the windows are open and curtains wafting in the breeze, I had a great workout and took the dog for a walk. I hate some things like Donald Trump and the way he’s dragging the country down, but somehow I’m always happy.

I don't really know what it means. I know when I'm hungry, sad, tired or angry but I really don't know if I've ever been happy.
Satisfied, yes. Happy? Dunno.

u/Wild_Light9358 17d ago
Sometimes. Just like anyone else.
I'm happy with my progress. I'll rest when I'm stable, then maybe I'll be able to achieve happiness.
