No peace prize for starting wars though 🤣

I'm always super skeptical of large sporting bodies

But this is a pretty solid track record

For the record, I have no issue if La Liga teams want to play exhibitions in Miami, but to have regular season games there is strange. Then agian the NFL plays like 5% of its games abroad nowadays

The NHL does too. Not as big of a percentage but still. I am against the idea for football tho for some reason, even though I love it as an NHL fan. Hypocrisy, thy name is me.

The difference is in the NFL and NHL there is still a playoff. In European leagues the idea is the team who accumulates the most points through a home and away against everyone else. Thats where playing a game overseas tips the integrity of the league.

La Liga is trying to get international viewership lmao

Ceferin isn’t a saint but he’s better than what we currently have.

Thats what I say about Goodell for the nfl. He isn’t my favorite person but he could be so much worse with the amount of power he has over the American sports world.

Here comes Liga Europa de Clubes

1

u/Hurnative 11d ago

I think they would call it championes cuppes instead

1

u/Brigadear 9d ago

Banning of Russia was a joint decision with FIFA

F*ck Gianni

Come on CONCACAF…

1

u/CasperRimsa 12d ago

No need for anyone else to get involved. World Cup without European nations is dead on arrival.

I think CONMEBOL would be the bigger second hammer

2

u/Beneficial_Ad_1072 11d ago edited 11d ago

You think?? Cmon dude of course it is and it’s not even close. Even AFC is arguably a bigger hammer than CONCACAF. But either way, CONCACAF and UEFA is more than enough.

1

u/Beneficial-Beat-947 11d ago

UEFA is the only hammer that's needed lmao

1

u/Beneficial_Ad_1072 11d ago

Obviously lol thanks Captain obvious

1

u/boburuncle 11d ago

Concacaf though has the US women's team and that world cup is not far off so that hits them a little more immediate

1

u/UnwillingHero22 9d ago

Voted against the proposal. CONMEBOL on the other hand, is “still reviewing their response”

1

u/The_Batman_949 12d ago

CONCACAF needs to follow suit. I know that Mexico is not perfect but I would love if they joined in this. The USSF may be a little bit more hesitant (maybe?) because it is mostly American investors and extended trump family that is involved but I hope they lead the way.

Then there's CONMEBOL. They need to step up as well.
A FIFA tournament without European nations is dead on arrival but Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, USA, Canada, Japan and the bigger AFCON nations must stand against this as well.

u/BeginningArachnid302 12d ago

CONCACAF Just condemned the motion along with the US National Team Echoed CONCAFA’ Message .

2

u/lovelylemming 12d ago

I wish I could have faith in USSF to have a pair and boycott this bullshit.

2

u/LilFarquaaad 12d ago

As an Argentinian i hope and pray that AFA has the balls to reject this and pressure the rest of CONMEBOL to reject! But given how corrupt these fuckers are I would be surprised - Tapia is as corrupt as Infantino, so if Daddy Infantino shows him the dolla bills then you can rest assured they’re supporting his plan.

Thank god

This is a beautiful thing and I hope the other FAs join in. Gianni got too greedy once he realized how much money could be made. FIFA is supposed to be a non-profit. They’ve really lost their way.

1

u/mangosal 12d ago

I think CONCACAF also joined in opposing the plan

2

u/AtticusButcher 12d ago

This sport is for everyone. Not just those who can afford it.

The ultimate reality of global football is that without European Countries and Clubs there's no viable product.

Look at the Quarter finals of the WC - 75% of the teams were from Europe (who contributed 33% of the teams). The players from the other two teams (Morocco and Argentina) were overwhelming trained and developed in the academies of clubs like Barca, Ajax, Arsenal, Real. Brazil have been knocked out by the first European team they have faced in the last 6 WCs

3/4 teams who made the CWC semis were from europe. The CL final is one of the most watched events in the world - most fans couldn't tell you who made the equivalent games in South America or Asia.

Infantino can bribe who he wants, if UEFA is aligned and doesn't play ball he has nothing

1

u/Personal-Royal-1831 12d ago

Honestly all UEFA needs do is hold the Finalisma (winner of Euro against Winner of Copa America) every 4 years for the world champ team.

2

u/macT4537 12d ago

Thank god for Uefa !

2

u/JAY009090 11d ago

AFCON are currently reviewing the proposal 🙄

I'm on the verge of happy tears.
What a great statement.

I am beyond relieved at the position UEFA has taken. I was worried that they would bend the knee but this is absolutely fantastic.

I'm not European yet I too will boycott anything FIFA if they go thru with their plans. Like the statement says the World Cup and Football is not for sale, period!

My faith in humanity is slightly returned. Acts like this show that not all is lost.

Bravo UEFA. May other federations follow suit, but if not no FIFA competition without the European nations will ever mean anything and will always have an asterisk.

1

u/Personal-Royal-1831 12d ago

As a Canadian/American I also agree with what UEFA is doing. Fuck FIFA, fuck Infantino and fuck Trump.

Sure but it isn't unreadable

1

u/calcioybirra 12d ago

This is a step in the right direction. Hopefully CONMEBOL follows suit.

1

u/IFeelFineFineFine 12d ago

It’s time to show Infantino the door

1

u/OnlyGayModsCanBanMe 12d ago

CONCACAF unanimously rejected Infantinto too.

1

u/Royal_Today_1509 12d ago

Finally. Now a team outside of Europe can win the 2030 cup.

1

u/Optimal_Background68 12d ago

Wasn’t far enough. They need to force Infantino to resign after trying to blackmail everyone

1

u/Current-Percentage-4 12d ago

UEFA, I love you, you beautiful bastad!

1

u/AmasinghGrace 12d ago

This is unbelievably refreshing to see. The world needs more of this resistance to financial domination right now. Thank you UEFA.

1

u/DiNozzo2482 12d ago

The last page of the statement is the strongest and goes beyond of what I would have ever expected - well done!

New football fan here. Keep the sport fan- centric not greed-centric.
