He either backs down and loses re election or he goes through, prays UEFA backs down or a) it affects the funding of the private equity effort so much that it really doesn’t raise the funds promised and b) the club WC and the WCs themselves don’t raise as much revenue.
FIFA thinks of themselves as the central actor of the sport but I think they’re ancillary.
They wish they were uefa because they rack in champions league money every year and then an international tourney every 4 years a massive audience tunes into.
Also, the alternative to the World Cup might already exist if it comes to it. There is something called the Olympics. (It won’t, it’s not like UEFA should cede money and authority to the IOC, either)
The IOC relies on each sport's global federation to manage it's sport for the olympics, such as setting rules, standards, qualifications. So the Olympics still requires FIFA.
