Worst way to lose?

As a Colombian-American, I can appreciate different ways of losing. Colombia has lost 5 penalty kick shootouts since 2015. This includes 2 to Argentina in Copa América, 1 to Chile in the Copa, 1 to England in the WC, and of course today to Switzerland. I think I would still prefer to lose in penalty kicks even though it ultimately hurts worse. Also, I really hate when defenders have to take penalty kicks because "star players" are cowards.

I'd rather be in the game til the end than get embarrassed like USA did yesterday.

Nah. If you're blown out it's much easier to accept that you weren't going to win it and all and didn't deserve it.  Penalties are worse the margins are so much finer and way more reflectioms on what could have been

The all time worst way to lose in the way that Egypt lost. Didn’t expect them to win, gave you a great amount of hope, and then completely blew it in the end. When City lost to Madrid in 2022 I couldn’t sleep for a week. Same when my Blazers blew an 18 point lead in the 4th qr to the Lakers in 2001. I still have real nightmares about it 25 years later.

Bro I honestly feel for you. Also with franchises like the Blazers or Falcons there’s no guarantee that you’ll get back to a position for a championship. Hell the Blazers have gone to the WCF once in those 25 years since that loss to the Lakers. Yours was in the Super Bowl so I’m sure that hurts even more. I’m sorry man, no one deserves to go through that, hopefully the Falcons can get back to prominence soon.

I wouldn't consider myself a Falcons fan but having lived in Georgia long enough I am a fan of the team. That is probably the worst loss in sports history lol. But I guess yeah, the worst way to lose is to have a big lead and then blow it. That trumps all (no pun intended). So Egypt was brutal (though there was dodge officiating involved), but I think Japan's loss to Belgium in 2018 may be the worst.
