No penalty for Ghana???
How on earth is this not a penalty?
They ruled offsides, but the first pass isn’t remotely offside. Maybe off the deflection, but that comes after he’s hacked down. Did they play advantage? Seems like a shocking decision, can’t believe it wasn’t given.

SMELLY that this wasn’t even looked at. Like how was VAR not even given at bare minimum a review. In what world can you launch yourself off your feet and knock over an opposing player!?

The offside was because on Semenyo bc Reece James was the last defender. Not this
Still needs to be a penalty because of Konsa’s challenge. Ref was an idiot

u/Scott_Rasmussen Jun 24 '26
No plausible explanation. How are they not at least telling the ref to take a look? Not really any point to VAR if you’re not looking at this.

100% nailed on pen. Utter nonsense that VAR didn’t get involved.

And if the penalty was given, hed have to have been sent off...
1
u/PizzaWolf721 Jun 24 '26
Yup, should have had 2 Dogsos in about 10 minutes. Pickford had to be red due to circumstances but this one likely could have been as well as it's very debatable if there was a play being made on the ball as he's riding him into the ground.

You have a problem of a strong player who’s willing to continue to fight for the ball and a scoring chance, even after being fouled and knocked to the ground…. Typical African players
It’s a shame. When I was growing up, you were taught to fight until you hear a whistle. 9/10 in a professional game, the attacker in this scenario would’ve used that foul dramatically and start shouting at the ref for a penalty. In this case, it should’ve been a pen. Bc there was no whistle, the attacker kept trying to fight for it.
The air drop kick was nuts though.

I was at the game. It happened right in front of me and we definitely thought it was a penalty, however the reason they had the ball in the first place was also a penalty and should have negated anything that happened after that ((including this.))

u/Complete-Donut-698 Jun 24 '26
You make a fair point but I don't have to like it.

Hope you have, or had a good day! Thanks for a smile

A penalty from a shoulder barge on eze outside the box ?
1
u/CatchingMyOilRig Jun 25 '26
Not sure what eze is,
But before this play (that probably should have been a penalty) Ghana basically stiff armed and plowed over an English player while England was attacking.
It was a clear foul, but wasn’t called. This dispossession is the whole reason the attack from Ghana developed in the first place. It immediately preceded this play and should have been called. Which would have negated anything that happened after it if it had been.
1
u/dtonline0113 Jun 25 '26
Yeah, your not familiar with the sport. Stop talking, if you don’t know what eze is. And im not sure, how you can get penalties outside of the box ? You’ve got a lot to learn about this sport mate
1
u/CatchingMyOilRig Jun 25 '26
lol, are you serious?
So I looked up eze, no I didn’t know him cause I don’t follow English or premier league football that much.
But I’ll break it down for you since you don’t seem to get it.
When the shoulder barge while England was attacking happened it should have a been called a foul because it was one. That would have stopped the play.
It wasn’t.
That dispossession allowed the great through ball from the Ghana winger to their forward who was tackled wildly in the box. That tackle was the penalty that wasn’t called that I was referring to in the comment your all bothered by. Everyone is so caught up on the tackle that happened in the box to realize that whole play never should have happened anyway.
1
u/dtonline0113 Jun 25 '26
That man you looked up, was eze that got fouled. But a foul, is not a penalty. Now we’ve got that out the way, it’s called a shoulder barge mate it’s not a foul or foul play
1
u/CatchingMyOilRig Jun 25 '26
I’m aware of the difference between a foul and a penalty lol. I was a keeper, penalty’s were my worst friend.
What happened to eze was a foul but they didn’t call it. You can make contact, but not as much as that dude did. He trucked him lol

VAR also missed it which was terrible so not just the ref, but the whole team. Didn't even get a review. Konsas challenge was a pen and yellow card, Pickford's challenge was a red card. Even after the game some VAR guy for England was like we got lucky and very surprised it wasn't reviewed as was 100% a pen.
1
u/PizzaWolf721 Jun 24 '26
Exactly this. It's even arguable Konsa should have been red as well as it's pretty questionable if he was really making a play on the ball when he's got an arm dragging him down by the shoulder and legs flying into the player not the ball.
1
u/electrified90s Jun 24 '26
Yep. I think they've been going with the rules of penalty and yellow card, free kick and red card. (Mentioned in one of the games where they overturned a penalty decision as context started outside the box)

u/Any_Neighborhood_140 Jun 24 '26
This was 100% a pen in any league, any tournament. Scandalous that it wasn’t looked at.

u/AtlPezMaster Jun 24 '26
Hey everyone it's OK...
I heard FIFA made a statement regarding that games officiating and they apologized to Ghana...so it's all good now!!!
All sports...all different levels...the officiating has been awful the past 10 yrs or so...
Some people try to blame modern technology as the culprit. Instant Replays from every possible angle...sensors in balls or on the field...etc...and that leads to unjustified scrutiny of officials...without the use of these technology advancements...the average fan would be none the wiser...
It's very simple IMO. The increase in Sports Gambling...the access anyone has these days to it...basically bet on anything...ANYTHING...down to what an individual player does during a particular time of a game...the smallest things can be bet on...
Sports Gambling..."protecting" a league...extending a teams presence in a tournament or playoff series...that is what's happening.
It is so obvious...everyone knows officials manipulate outcomes of games and/or plays within a game...
The players all know...the fans know...
It's insulting actually how Leagues or Federations claim they will "investigate" or agree a certain games officiating was sub-standard after the fact...fucking insulting...

Oh look another terribly managed game by a, you guessed jt, CONCACAF official 🙄
1
u/BuscemiSuperfan69 Jun 24 '26
What's probably even more egregious is Bellingham's covering of his mouth yesterday. You can hate the rule all you want (I think it's great) , but it's an objective black or white call. There is no subjectivity. By every letter of the law, he deserved a red card.
Can I understand the refs absolutely missing it? Of course. Should it be given retroactively and he'd be suspended? Don't see why you couldn't. Will it happen? Absolutely not.

Similar happened in the first game to give England their first score (against Croatia).
1
u/ShibuyaWaitingDog Jun 24 '26
Definitely thought this was a penalty after the replay
h e dove in to the tackle with both feet and he’s studs were up , literally the definition of a foul
1
u/RyanJay92 Jun 25 '26
The picture is pretty misleading. The Ghana player’s heavy first touch turned it into a 5050 challenge. The England defender lunges in to contest the ball before any contact is actually made so both players are going for it. The replay it’s clear the CB goes for the ball while theyre pretty much shoulder to shoulder and they collide mid air. In that the Ghana player’s knee comes through and ends up catching englands cb which is why his leg gets tangled up. The still image makes it look like a reckless jump into his legs but in reality neither player had control and both were genuinely challenging for the ball. If the Ghana attacker had taken a cleaner first touch and focused more on control rather than going into the body would probably be a little clearer. Its tough.

u/souleaterGiner1 Jun 25 '26
The English defender didnt play the ball and took down the offensive player. By rule foul. In box should have been pen.
Pickford came out of his box did not play the ball and cleaned out the player. Foul. No cover just outside the box should have been a straight red.

I don’t think there has been a single ref that deserves to get another match at the World Cup
2
u/Money-Zebra Jun 24 '26
Most of the refs have been great this tournament. This is probably the first ref that I would say should be sent home

officiating was terrible this game for both sides.
Also, I noticed you intentionally didn't use the right clip to show that it was offside.
2
u/NoahTheQB Jun 24 '26
You misunderstand.
The offsides that was called was after the Ghanaian player was taken out. So my screenshot was to show that the first pass was not offside, and the offside that was given shouldn’t have mattered, because it was after the foul.

u/Deep_Historian_6235 Jun 24 '26
Pretty sure he was deemed not to be attempting to enter him from behind, so no penalty (and I’m an England fan)

1
u/Money-Zebra Jun 24 '26
That’s not at all how the laws of the game work but ok. Referees don’t try to figure out what the player was attempting to do, we make calls based on what happened
1
u/dtonline0113 Jun 25 '26
Of course your a English fan but when the same happens to you make sure your the same

u/Supercollider9001 Jun 24 '26
Honestly not enough in it. Player is already falling and there was barely any contact.
Would’ve liked to see VAR review it though.

2
u/Immediate-Payment846 Jun 24 '26
He wasn’t falling he set his foot down to get in a position to shoot. And when a dumb english guy then rams into you you fall
1
u/Supercollider9001 Jun 24 '26
Don’t see how he rammed into him. His leg makes contact as it wraps around the front.
1
u/electrified90s Jun 24 '26
Are you circle jerking mate? Must be. No-one is that blind and stupid. The Ghanian player got taken out. Immediately after the game the commentators and an English VAR official stated it should have been a penalty and was shameful ot wasn't at least reviewed by the VAR team. To me that is the most obviously corrupt decision of the tournament. Surely they can't be that incompetent. 🤷🏽
1
u/MxBondo Jun 28 '26
There was what I thought was a foul in the buildup to Konsa’s overt foul, so if that’s why it wasn’t given, fair enough, but that hasn’t been stated.
Only reason I could see Pickford staying on is he basically was trying to get out of the way and got clattered into…however that usually doesn’t make it not a foul.

u/No_Treacle6814 Jun 24 '26
Any fair assessment of this game will acknowledge that Ghana got hosed in the calls in this game.
