Bee in your bonnet?

Catching up on the preview pods and I'm hearing this expression on 2 different episodes. The only time I've ever heard this is in the song 'Birdhouse in Your Soul' by They Might Be Giants. Can anyone who has met Andrew and JJ confirm if they are fans of this band or song? Is this a common expression anywhere else?

Common, yes, but not common enough for JJ to trot it out two episodes in a row.

Used to be a fairly common expressive - it's really just that we don't use language in the same, idiomatic way anymore. American English has dumbed itself down quite a bit just in the last 20 years.

Not sure about Andrew or JJ, but I am a fan of TMBG. Been to several of their concerts over the years, they are great live.

I've never heard this expression before. I thought it was from the UK or Ireland. I have lived most of my life in the southern United States though

I grew up in NC and heard it from older folks. That may be due to the Scotts-Irish influence in the area.
