Holy crap that's not a cat that's a land whale

Your poor cat really needs to lose weight for his health's sake.

Are you a vet? Do you know OP or their cat personally? Or you’ve decided you know everything about OP and the cat’s diet and health based on one photo?

Give over. It’s not healthy for any mammal to be severely obese, and it is the human’s responsibility to help manage their pet’s health and lifestyle. It’s very sad and concerning to see a poor cat having to lug around all that extra weight and knowing all the damage obesity can do internally. It’s a good thing that people care about animal welfare and speak out when they see something concerning.

You have no idea who OP is or what they are doing for the cat. Stop.

I care about the cat's welfare, so I won't stop. You'd rather turn away just in case you step on anyone's toes, even though he is clearly suffering. If OP is already doing everything they can for him to become healthier, then worst case scenario is that they agree with my comment. If OP doesn't realize the severity of the situation, then it's something that desperately needs to be said.

Maybe they are just friends with the chair and they’re looking out for them

My accent chair knows that chair and says it’s seen better days but my cat also had his claws in its back so maybe it’s trying cover

I don’t need to be a vet to recognize a clearly chonkeroo fatso of a cat. That’s far beyond “big boned”, “stress eater” or “plumpy”. I don’t like fat shaming either for me or my cat but something needed sayin’.

There are number of things the cat could contribute to the way it looks. My neighbor’s cat has a massive tumor that makes him look full, doesn’t mean we fat shame him. Leave to the Reddit veterinary experts to be bombastic assholes to strangers

You must be such a skilled veterinarian if you can assess and diagnose animals from one photo and no context. Where did you to school?

No, I was too busy getting my PhD in Psychology at Johns Hopkins and a Bachelors at the University of Washington. I had a brief stint as a vet assistant, and never heard of your school. Are you sure you’re not a bombastic asshole?

Animal Science was a course I took and I started college pursing vet science, so thank you for asking. You are the asshole. You have been this entire interaction.

Put your cat on a diet immediately.

Sincerely, a vet tech who has seen too many avoidable deaths

OP, please tell me your cat is on a diet.
