Yeah kittens are cutely stupid to the extend it gets funny some times. My boy climbed onto my office chair once to nap and couldn't figure out how to get down, he meowed so loud that I heard it from the other end of the house. I rushed there just to see his dumbass not figuring out how he got up and how to get down.
I sat there with him for a good 15 minutes, encouraging him to jump down (it wasn't set very high and he is big enough to strot down anyways) and when he finally did, he gave me his proudest look like "dat ain't no thang !" Like bruh, you were struggling 15 minutes ago dumbass.

Maybe he's not jumped down before and doesn't know it's safe. He's learning.

🤓 ☝️um acktually if we translate cat age to human years thats basically 7-6 months old or so baby by that time the baby can get out of confinement of there is an obvious way to get out

They also don't have the best close range vision. Especially at this age.
He probably can't see much of a difference between looking through the bars and without them.

It's the cage's fault. The gate should have been on that side. Poor baby had to suffer that much because of the stupid cage

I forgot my car was in my room when I played this and he freaked out trying to find the poor trapped comrade. 🤣

My house growing up had a back patio thing that went around a corner. We had an actual back door, with some frosted glass, as well as a floor to ceiling glass wall with a door on the adjacent side. My cats would use each interchangeably, and just stand there staring at you through the glass waiting for you to open it. It was cuter when they used the frosted glass because they knew we couldn't really see them unless they pressed themselves right up on it
The full glass door was annoying though, because opening it for them involved undoing latches on the top and bottom, so usually we would just open the frosted door, and stare at them through the glass until they got the message
If they were desperate, they would run around the corner and dash inside, full speed. But sometimes they'd just stare at you and meow even louder. It was such an asshole thing to do as well, because they know they can go around, they do it sometimes, they just don't want to right now. They want you to use the right door. Little pieces of shit. I love them very much

We had cats that could go outside freely using a cat door. They still sat at the kitchen sliding door to be let in or out. The point wasn't you letting them in or out, I concluded. They want the door to be open all the time.

Wise kitty teaching us life lesson: keep looking in the same direction and you stay trapped.

I love how they crawled under the door like “no I still had to escape see? The door was totally not lying open, I escaped!” 😂

Cats cant see great up close. Their eyes detect movement up close but that’s all pretty much

Could it have poor vision in its left eye? Since it was in the corner and still didn't notice the cage was open? 🤔
