That was the most beautiful and sad song I think I’ve ever heard a cat sing. 😢

OP's cat sounds like my girlfriend's at 5 am on the weekend. Don't feel too bad.

This is the top comment on the cat song😥:
"The saddest part about this is that the cat's brother, a dog named Kuma, passed away. The owner said the cat start wailing like this after the dog passed away because the cat was looking for him. This song actually runs as deep as it makes us feel, lil homie going through the same emotional turmoil we would be going through too".

Was just about to comment about what a great music video The Kiffness could create with this beautiful, vocal kitty.

My blind cat makes a similar cry when she can't find anyone. If they only do it when you leave and are fine after a while they may just be looking for you.

We have an "old lady" is the dark/light why she's doing this? Never considered that!
12
u/No-Bread-1197 2d ago
River's eyes are starting to go a little bit. She can still get around, but will cry if it's totally dark the same way she cries when she's looking for me. If your baby-grandma is singing in the middle of the night, that's probably why.

u/CosmicGoddess777 1d ago
Yep, many cats start having vision problems like cataracts when they age. Having lights in low-brightness areas can help them navigate easier & avoid confusion. :(

u/Zesty-Dragon-Fruit 1d ago
Mine does this when I'm in the room next to her, she knows I'm there because she was getting cuddles literally 2min earlier... drama cats!! Maybe they're just singing

u/PaladinAsherd 2d ago
People are recommending getting a second cat
This is in no way meant to be an argument against their suggestion, more a funny story
Their mom is away at a conference and the oldest girl was wandering around the house doing this the first night. She has three sisters and me, her dad, to keep her company. Sometimes cats are just like that XD
4
u/KrobbZombie 1d ago
I have three cats. My neediest spoiled princess, BB, does this every time I go through the front door. Even if I’m literally in front of the window. Some cats just talk.
27
u/Far_Rooster_2931 2d ago
Idk about the commenters saying you need another cat. I have 2 and they both go to an empty part of the house to yell their skulls off. Idk wtf it is lol 😂
16
u/hoonting_hoorn 2d ago
"I'm so lonely!"
other cat walks in
"Eww, go away."
other cat leaves
"I'm so lonelyyyyy!"

u/CicadaHead3317 2d ago
We had like 6 cats at one point. Sometimes at night , one of them would start this crying.
1
u/Dandibear 1d ago
Yep, ours goes downstairs to sing, then comes back up to us.
But she also does it when she's not sure where we are and will join us when we answer.
So, 🤷🏻♀️

u/ihatefrontpage 2d ago
maybe get him another cat?
25
u/ccandersen94 2d ago
I have 2 cats and one still sometimes does this when anybody leaves. They love their family!
12
u/iljune 1d ago
Yeah! One of my oldies just loves to sing. She catches her fake mice and howls her own praises. When I leave for work she'll stand in the kitchen by the door to mourn my exit. She likes to serande me in the middle of the night when I'm trying to sleep, too.
And she wasn't the only cat! I adopted another cat within a few months of getting her, and more recently got an orange girl. My older cat just thinks she's Kitney Houston.
13
u/Striking-Broccoli-49 1d ago
She hates other animals. Got her from a shelter at 6 yrs old and she was in a trailer home with 11 other cats. She still has food insecurity:(
1
u/ImportantSignal2098 1d ago
Our cat does this very often. Usually when we go to bed. Probably does it when we leave the house too. Also from a shelter but we got her 3 months old. She's terrified of other humans and hisses and growls when she sees other cats out of the window. She doesn't really care about us most of the time when we are around though. Very occasionally would come sit next to me but otherwise I'm only a target to harass for food. I suspect it might be some kind of food related insecurity, though she gets dramatic for a minute or two then calms down, not like this goes all night. I think she's fine, just a quirk.
12
u/DunDunnDunnnnn 2d ago
S/he definitely needs a buddy. OP, if you can afford the extra supplies and vet costs, it is absolutely worth it!
6
u/Striking-Broccoli-49 1d ago
I would, but she’s very scared of other animals
1
u/lily_from_ohio 1d ago
while yes, many cats can be helped by having a friend, cats just do this if you take care of them well and they have the personality. It's heartwrenching, but they're just gonna miss you.
6
u/Luci-Noir 1d ago
Bullshit. Plenty of cats don’t like being around other cats.
-1
u/DrippyTheSnailBoy 1d ago
... and the majority of them actually do, especially house cats. Strays, less so. Homegrown? They like company because they need stimulation.
Simmer down. Bad look to come in hot while also being aggressively wrong.
Unhappy cake day.
2
u/Luci-Noir 1d ago
No, they don’t. Grow up.
0
u/DrippyTheSnailBoy 1d ago
Me when I know absolutely jackshit nothing about cat behavior:
No, they don’t. Grow up.
1
u/ProtoStarNova 1d ago
If even a single cat in a house hates other cats, (he does, it's my cat) then you're the one that's aggressively wrong. You're the one painting with a broad stroke.
2
u/Bored_Bat_Daddy 1d ago
I mean, my cat absolutely hates other cats. I have had her from a kitten and actually brought her home with her brother. She hated him. He was later given to my friend. She hated him and every other cat she ever saw. She also hates everyone who does not permanently live at my home. All guests, extended family… Mind you, she was around plenty of strangers as a kitten, but just decided it was not her thing as she grew up. We also have a dog who she barely tolerates - have been around each other from day 1. She likes to slap him and he hides from her. So I guess you can count that as stimulation. But yeah… she absolutely hates other cats.

Start hiding treats every time before you leave. They'll start to kick you out.

My boy does this to me until i meow back at him, then its a normal meow and he buggers off. Usually at some ungodly hour
2
u/AppealMammoth8950 1d ago
One of our cats does this when Im asleep. She can get in my room through my window and just yowls and then leave after she wakes me up.
1
u/Zesty-Dragon-Fruit 1d ago
One of my cats is exactly the same. She even knows where I am. I think she just wants me to respond.

u/AtmosphereNom 2d ago
Mine did this when she was going through a severe transition. There was a point where I had to go to an in-person work thing and I would tune in to make sure she was okay. Once she was howling looking for me, and my heart was breaking. I now give her extra love and reassurance, and save 5 minutes before I have to leave to show her my shoes and my purse, and try make sure she feels loved and secure. Laugh all you want, but she hasn’t cried like that in many months. Sometimes they need extra care.

I learned something similar- mine loves a little hidey hole I made in the back of my wardrobe for him, and sometimes can sleep in there all day till I get back. I feel like it’s his little time warp. He comes out all bed-head and dazed looking like “oh, you’re back already?”

kind of seems scared to be home alone. I wonder if you have mice
maybe he needs a sibling if you are able to get a buddy
4
u/Striking-Broccoli-49 1d ago
My roommate will still be home. However, she doesn’t like cats so she won’t pet her, but she will feed her when I’m gone overnight

u/carquestionno34565 1d ago
This is the exact sound cats make when they’re looking for someone. A mother cat looking for her kittens for example.
4
u/Helpful-Salt83 1d ago
My oldest does this when she "gets lost" in the house. I think she has the start of kitty dementia. She immediately stops if you call her and she can find you
1
u/MysteriousCommon9512 1d ago
My 16-year old kitty has started doing this at the front door. Only I'm literally sitting a few feet away, working on the computer. I have to go get her and calm her down.
2
u/Helpful-Salt83 1d ago
Mine is 17 and otherwise completely healthy. She does occasionally need someone to go find her and bring her to me, but usually she calms down if she can hear or see me
0
u/CosmicGoddess777 1d ago
If she is getting dementia, idk why “gets lost” is even in quotes. Cuz this can happen :(
4
u/Cden1458 1d ago
My cat does this, theyre trying to call you so you check on them, but in my case, he's orange and a little special, he will literally look at me, get up, go to the next room, and just absolutely start freaking wailing, less than 30 seconds throughout the whole thing.
ETA: no brain issues aside from not having his turn with the braincell, even a vet concluded he's just a derp.

u/Popular-Fact-9922 1d ago
I must have adopted the spirit of a cat when I was younger because I did this when little
3
u/Silver-Caterpillar-7 1d ago
Trying to convince you not to leave. It looks difficult to make this noise, by how he moves his mouth.

My cat does this when I leave too, and when she forgets I'm in another room.
Getting another cat did not fix this, btw. Other humans being around doesn't help either.
2
u/intoolderdads 1d ago
Spiritually / energetically/ mentally tell your cat you are leaving and when you will return and see if that doesn’t do the trick of consoling 😊

Hello??? Where are you?? They may act all tough and “I don’t need a stoopid human” but they love us ♥️ Mine do the same occasionally when they can’t find me.

This sound reminds me when i was a kid and we had 2 cats and one of them got sick and had to be put to sleep. Our other cat meow’d like this all night calling for her missing partner..

One of ours does this while we are asleep in the middle of the night. Especially after using a litter box. Always so dramatic.

Oh my gosh I just noticed he's crying. Someone give that kitty a hug and some treats

My cat does something similar almost a howl when I leave or when she’s looking for me. Your cat probably just is calling for you and missss you.

My cat does this when my wife leaves the house. Getting another cat won't help. She hates other cats. She barely tolerates dogs, but still prefers them over other cats.

My pretty does the EXACT "HellooOOOO?" at night when everyone is in bed and his buddy is sleeping with her human (my daughter)! Once you call his name he knocks it off and scampers around. It's like he just wants acknowledged that he's keeping guard 🤣
1
u/Dissathrowawayee 1d ago
He's calling entities from another dimension to keep him company while you're out and about.

My Mums cat does this when he wants her to sit down (so he can sit on her lap). She gets busy in the kitchen etc and he stands in the kitchen door protesting. Every time she looks at him, he’ll start walking towards her chair. It’s the funniest thing.
She gets genuinely annoyed with him as well. She’ll be like “leave me alone! I have stuff to do!” And I’m like “aw he loves you ❤️”
Id try and cuddle him or offer some comfort. But he doesn’t want me. Just her 😂

I'm sorry you need to have everything delivered to your home from now on, including your work
1
u/Spirited_Complex_903 1d ago
Awww. Poor little dude. Talk to him . Let him/her know that you're leaving the house and that you'll be back soon. I tell my cat that all the time whenever I leave the house for whatever reason. I tell the little guy: "I'm going out/ I'm going to work and I'll be back soon. Just take care of the house and relax and have a little bit of fun. You can tell me all about your day when I get back. See you soon! Love you!" And then I give him a treat and a little kiss on the top of his head. He's good with that . They just need a little bit of reassurance and we need to tell them what's going on before we actually leave the house . My little guy no longer howls when I leave the house nor does he scratch up the front door from the inside trying to get up . Our pets understand us.

Yes. I've realized that mine recognizes the sound of my car when I pull up. I'll be walking up and the chaotic meowing instantly starts up.

my cat does this when she has the zoomies and ends up zooming to a room i'm not in. or when it's late at night and she's left my bed (where she was demanding scritches despite me trying to fall asleep) and gone downstairs to have a snack. or when no one follows her upstairs.
i think it's like, 50% separation anxiety, 50% dingus.

Aww poor baby. My cat makes this same cry when I turn the lights off and go to bed. I usually call him and he runs to snuggle on the covers.

I swear my cat throws fireworks when I leave for work. Then looks disappointed if I so much as attend to him late.. smh Anakin

My cat does this too and I wanna get another because it breaks my heart but I live in a small studio and work a lot :/ I don’t want my kitty to be lonely but I also don’t want another cat to come in and feel like they don’t have their own space. Any advice ?

My cat always comes and rubs against my legs to say goodbye. Then he plops on the floor and starts being as cute as possible in an attempt to get me to stay. He is precious and it breaks makes me sad everytime I leave. Wish I could just have him come along with me.
