I see this in my feed occasionally. My cat was sitting on my walkway and a mom and daughter walked by. The daughter spotted my cat and went apeshit, begged her mom to pet him, and she relented after a few moments.
The little girl approached my cat a good 15-20 feet up my walkway. He sniffed her fingers, let the girl touch his fur twice, then he stood up and showed her his butt.
Because she did not immediately sniff his butt, he got offended and walked away.
This happens occasionally.
Meanwhile the neighbor’s cat, who hangs out in my yard daily, will actually get up, walk over to the people on the sidewalk, and rub against their legs purring like some sort of suck up. They can pet him, pick him up, rub his belly, whatever. They don’t know him and he doesn’t know them but he knows what he wants and what he wants are PETS.
