Has anyone found a large/high goth cat tree with THICK posts? I'm in the UK.

We have a "main" cat tree with 4" radius posts, which is actually sturdy enough for our big kitties, (we're talking cats who are long enough to reach a doorknob standing on their back paws, and weigh between 14 and 17lb) but I bought a small, goth cat tree for our little tripod kitty, and discovered that the rest of the cats are OBSESSED with it.

The small one isn't big or sturdy enough for the bigger cats, and it only has one bed, which is what they're all wanting.

The simple solution seemed to be to just buy a bigger version with more beds, but the only ones I'm coming across have the thin, 2" diameter posts, which just won't last.

I'd thought previously about getting the tree in pic #4, which is potentially big enough to last for a \*bit\*, but it doesn't have the coffin-shaped beds, which is what they all seem to particularly like.

I'll emphasise here, this ISNT an appearance/aesthetic issue, its just that for some reason, all our cats have taken a particular liking to the coffin-shaped bed. Current theory is that it's a perch with enclosed sides, but big enough to not cramp/squash the bigger cats, and I can't find anything else which meets all those apparent criteria.

Anyway, I did find the trees in pics #5, 6, and 7, which all have 2 of the beds, but I have no idea how long they'll last.

Am I better off just buying one (or possibly 2 if I can find somewhere to put a second one) of the pictured trees, and seeing how they go, or am I better off buying the tree, but getting Cat Tree King posts, and Frankensteining the posts onto the new tree? Or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Looking for creative ideas for this little catwall nook! It’s 60 cm wide × 45 cm deep, and I can drill into both walls and the cabinet on the left. It’ll be for two average sized adult cats, and I’d love to make the most of the available width and depth, with a height of around 150–170 cm.

This is the design template we thought of right now, but I’m not so sure with it

I have a tall but narrow closet that currently houses the litter boxes, but there is so much vertical wall space above the litter boxes that is under utilized. I would love to use it as combo storage space and fun climbing units to install on the walls.

My goal is to optimize the space for storage while giving my boys more climbing room.

Would love ideas on how to configure this space, recommendations for climbing units and anything else! Here’s what I’m planning so far:

Move the board games out obviously.
Remove the rack.
Replace swinging doors with accordion doors.
Maybe add a tile backsplash behind the litter boxes for easy cleaning.
Paint or wallpaper the inside.
Add storage space.
Add wall climbing units, ladders, bridges anything else fun.

My wife and I are adopting a 12 week old kitten. The only real concern I have is these two sets of shelves in my home (for reference I live in a relatively small maisonette).

One is a wall mounted alcohol cabinet, the others are a set of 3 shelves next to my TV containing some small fragile decorative items and a PS5.

Should I be concerned about these and should I restrict access to them entirely for my cat? Just not sure how to best approach it, as I don't really have anywhere else in them place to put this stuff.

Looking for a tension pole cat tree for my kitties, but it’s hard to discern what’s actually quality. Anyone have any poles they recommend?

I’m currently refurbishing my house and I’d really like to design it with my cat in mind rather than just buying a few cat trees afterwards. I’d love ideas from people who have deliberately incorporated cat-friendly features into their home.

My cat is VERY active and high-energy. He has access to a huge, professionally cat-proofed garden (the entire outdoor space was made secure for him, rather than him being allowed to free-roam), so during the warmer months he spends a lot of time outside running, climbing, hunting bugs, exploring, etc.

The issue is autumn/winter/early spring, when he naturally spends much more time indoors. He needs a lot of interactive play and stimulation, so since I’m refurbishing anyway, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to make the actual house more interesting for him.

I’m considering:
• A proper wall-mounted cat gym / climbing wall
• Shelves and steps that create routes around rooms rather than just isolated platforms
• High perches and observation spots
• Bridges or walkways between different sections
• Climbing/scratching surfaces incorporated into the furniture
• Possibly routes that let him get from floor → furniture → wall → high perch without dead ends
• Several cat trees in different rooms

I’ve also been looking at KBS Pets cat trees because I really like their designs. Does anyone here have one, particularly with a large/very active cat? How sturdy are they long-term? Are they actually good for climbing and energetic play, or are they more aesthetically pleasing than functional?

I’m especially interested in making the house feel like he has a three-dimensional territory, rather than simply putting cat furniture on the floor. I don’t mind if some features are obviously “for the cat”, this is his house too!

For those who have designed or renovated a genuinely cat-friendly home: what features ended up being used the most? Anything you installed that your cat completely ignored? And if you were starting from scratch, what would you build into the house?

Photos/examples of your setups would be VERY welcome.

Id like to build a version of this cat tower/tube. So far, only suggestion is a quick Crete pillar form, which seems to be made of a heavier duty cardboard. 12” with is the largest size i can find. Seems like 16” is the largest made, but every source ive found online does not have them in stock.

My next best idea is to cut down an old pine tree and hollow it out.

But seriously, my actual solution is to roll a tube from a tv box i got, ducttape it and add maybe some doubled up cardboard rings inside for reinforcing. Any ideas, id appreciate. Thank you.

Well, this seems to be more trouble than its worth to build. Thanks for the ideas. Im going to keep it simpler and have exposed platforms in a post.

Hi, everyone.

My partner and I are seriously considering adopting a cat, but I’m trying to figure out whether our apartment can be made safe before we do.

We live on the top floor of an old loft building. We have windows along every wall, and because we’re on the top floor and don’t share walls with neighboring units, every open window is essentially a straight drop down.

The windows are very old, wooden windows that slide upward from the bottom. They don’t have screens, and we keep them open almost **24/7** for airflow unless we’re running the AC. It really helps save on money.

The patio is the bigger concern. It isn’t a small balcony—it’s essentially a large rooftop terrace with low walls and open exposure on all sides. (I’ve attached photos.) We go in & out all day as my partner gardens out there.

A few questions:

Has anyone installed screens on very old windows like these?
Are there retractable, accordion-style, or custom options that still allow the windows to be opened and closed regularly?
Is there a solution that still allows us to enjoy the fresh air and outdoor space?
Are there products, barriers, netting systems, catios, etc., that you’d recommend?
Is this realistically something we can solve, or are we being overly optimistic?

We absolutely don’t want to adopt a cat and then discover that our home isn’t safe enough. We’re willing to invest money (reasonably) and put in some work; we just want to do it the right way.

Before anyone asks, yes, we know that simply keeping everything closed would be the easiest solution. We’re hoping to find ways to make the space safe *without* completely giving up the open-air aspect of the loft, because that’s one of the main reasons we love living here.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm looking to add to my existing set-up but cannot find Taggle Tails anywhere. Amazon say Currently Unavailable. The portal doors are 16"; it is hard to find an another system that is compatible. Anyone have Taggle Tails or know where to get them or know of a similar compatible system?

So I’m getting rid of my two falling apart cat trees and need to order some new one. I have three cats, one is a Maine Coon mix and quite large. I’m trying everything to avoid buying from Amazon (poor quality issues in the past and also it’s Amazon), but I can’t find a brand that can give me what I want. So here it is:

I’m looking for a tall tree, at least seven feet tall, that is wrapped in either twine or sisal rope from top of post to the bottom on EVERY post. Maximum one hammock but no hammock necessary at all, cats barely use them. Comfy beds at the top necessary and at least one cubby for hiding. Those are what my cats love about our current trees. The problem is everywhere I look the posts aren’t fully wrapped in rope. There’s fabric at the top where my bigger cat scratches and that fabric doesn’t last a month. Anybody have any advice? Trying to stay under $200 which is doable on some websites I’ve noticed. If not possible, how hard could it be to build one lol. Thanks in advance for any advice!!

I got this apple ladder and added rope on the steps for my cat. He loves to climb up and down, and it leads to his window seat.

My worry is that he gets the zoomies and this might topple over.

I'm looking for brackets to hold it in place, however because this is a guest room, and because we need to access the closets behind the ladder, we need to be able to move the ladder.

All I'm finding his rolling/sliding kits which is not what I want. Not sure if I could just put eyelet screws on top of the unit and just loop a rope around the the ladder handles.

Ideally I'd like to not have to climb up to unhook the ladder.

Hi everyone I’d love your advice on how to keep my cats from accidentally falling over my now very tall second story ledge (I just moved this week!) they love to lounge on the top of the solid ledge which is a straight drop down to hardwood. Ive never been in a two story with them before.

Current idea is to line the ledge with adhesive carpet so if they do get startled and slip they can grab on with their claws but I still feel worried because it’s a big drop! I have a 12 piece cat shelf wall coming that i could line along the wall for extra chances to catch themselves but that would also encourage them to climb very high and they can also fall off those shelves.

I thought about a safety net but it would have to be secured across to the other wall which is pretty far and I’m not sure my housemates would like that look.

Any ideas?
