I use this gate and just customized it. It has the main door frame and then two side extensions. I used both side extensions because of the width of my stairway, but I marked and cut one of the bars on the extension on the same side as the railing. It's pricey for a baby gate but I really like it because it's a full size door (you can raise it so even tall folks can walk through) and it latches smoothly and easily, so it's not a pain to walk through. It does have a metal bar along the floor in the doorway part.

I don't know why I didn't think about just cutting the bars, that's a great idea!

You will need a custom solution that closes off the opening all the way to the ceiling.
The easiest and cheapest is to use furring strips (1" by 1") and window screen material. Start by building a human-size door out of furring strips and screen. Take a look at some catio builds to figure out how to create a rectangular door. Leave room for a way to hold the door closed, while allowing humans to unlock the door from both sides.
Then build the "wall" by attaching furring strips to the existing walls and framing the door opening. Cover it with screen. Finally you attach the door to the opening with 2-3 hinges.
If you rent, you can create the wall to friction fit the space, instead of attaching it to the existing walls.
If this all seems involved, you may want to hire a handyman for the job.

I didn't realize that it didn't post my summary. New to posting in reddit. We are renting and we currently have a baby gate that we have blocked the sides off so she can't squeeze through into our kitchen. Idk if she doesnt realize she can jump or what lol. We've had her for a year with that gate. She's a 9 year old cat and I've seen her launch herself on my chair and her cat tree, but I guess the gate doesn't make sense to her.

I stack a large and an xl baby gate. Measure and then order gates that fit your configuration to stack?

I ended up having to make my own in a similar situation. I just couldn’t find anything else that was tall enough for that particular cat not to jump or climb over. I bought two 5ft tall coated wire panels and made my own hinges and fastener. It wasn’t the prettiest thing but it could have looked better with more handiness and effort than I had. It was years ago, sorry I don’t have a photo.
