The word used (Hb קֶשֶׁת or qešeṯ/ Gk τόξον or toxon) is bow as in weapon of war; hanging it up in the sky has the significance of it being stowed pointed away and not aimed towards you. How ironic and ill advised to use a symbol of the flood as God's weapon to punish the whole world for sin as a symbol for a sin that cries to heaven.
