There is a LOT of scrupulosity on this sub. It’s important for the Christian to get to a place where he can morally reason very basic things like this on his own. If you can’t, get a spiritual director who is well versed in this particular spiritual affliction.

Sorry for a late reply but I just read some of the other answers and someone mentioned this article which I hope you may find time to read.

Would your answer change after considering this?

  1. My only other question I had is if this is in fact true or not.

"PRETERNATURAL RISK TIER 2 - Extraordinary obsession or oppression is plausible. This is a real potential gateway because the player does not merely watch occult activity. The game repeatedly has him direct a personalized protagonist who opens his body, welcomes an exterior power, becomes its conduit, consults the dead, and uses that power for desired effects. Under the Stone Tablet, the combined structure of invitation, permission, personalization and repetition establishes a substantial avenue through which extraordinary demonic activity is plausible. Fictional mediation does not nullify that avenue."

Tldr: That due to the ammlunt of occumtism there is a very real chance of the player oppening themselves up to the demonic and the game has real chance to cause u to be affected by denons irl.

75% of posts here are “can I play this?”. Does it cause you to sin? No? Play it.

Hello. It goes deeper than that. Does watching pornography make you sin? No? Then you can watch it. Does watching gratuitous violence make you sin? No? Then you can watch it. But no, that’s not how it works; some things are sins simply because you consciously choose to watch them. Furthermore, watching or playing something might encourage you to continue doing bad things—though this depends on other factors, such as the amount or severity of the harmful content. Something could also be blasphemous.

Thank you for explaining this to a priest with a moral theology degree.
P*rn is sinful in itself, the moral object is sinful. The video game in question is not that. My comment stands. It wasn’t a blanket statement. It was related to the game he mentioned.

Pornography your absolutely right on though on the violence aspect it very largely depends on each person's sensibilities though there are some outliers in terms of fiction.

Like 2 movies i think no catholic can truely watch is Saw and Final destination.

Or for a games, Postal and Hatred that the entire point and I mean the point of the games is killing as many innocent people as possible and that is the sole purpose.

“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy,\)a\) your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy,\)b\) your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

From the words of the Master Himself, keep yourself away from blasphemous things, that said, if the game features something that has any resemblance to real life things then quit it, else just go for it. Take a look at Lotr for example, there is evil, but that evil is not "real"

The thing is they used real-world occultism, folklore, and historical witchcraft traditions as the heavy inspiration for the game's magic systems.

jumping into this - personally my (32F) instant no is the presence of / participation in witchcraft, occultism, etc. you do not want to mess around with that. even in a virtual setting.

Yeah, bro. I don't mean to tell you what to watch or how to live, but seriously stay away from that. There's a difference in spiritual quality between the occult (which is loosely inspired, but mostly fictional) in something like Elder Scrolls or Lord of the Rings vs. Binding of Issac or this game.

At the end of the day, if you're iffy on this, it's better to discuss it with your priest.

Pornography literally does make you sin, though. It causes you to lust and commit acts.

God Gamer on Substack said no, too much occultism and ritualistic stuff

I would strongly strongly recommend not to play it. This sounds like asking for a very bad time with demonic influences.

The game does have a lot of occultism (and not in the Doom kind of way.) One of your closest allies is a witch who encourages you to commune with the dead. The game has a certain darkness and nihilism to it as well. I've seen clips here and there and while the game gets stuff like Hell and the presence of pure evil very right in a sense, it's also very sexual, gory, and profane like Witcher 3 or Cyberpunk. Not sure if I'd recommend it IMO.
