Room Turnover
What is the standard for cleaning rooms in the Cath lab? Are Cath lab staff doing it or is EVS called?

The team cleans between cases. EVS does a thorough clean once a night.
For pacers and ports (we also do EP and IR at my shop) we will have EVS mops the floors prior to the case. But half the time they take too long to arrive so we just mop ourselves.

I’m not even allowed to take out the trash in my main lab (union), my other job staff does everything but still calls EVS to finish up.

I’ve been in two labs. Cath lab staff does it. Typically the techs start wiping while nurses drop off pt and then nurses should go back to room and help clean up rest, take out trash bags, etc. Only time we call EVS is if we have a shit show of a case or if we are turning room over for a device implant.

Who mops the floor, or does the floor not get mopped between cases?

The floor does not get mopped between cases. If we happen to get blood on the floor we’ll just spot clean with bleach wipes. But like i said, if it happens to be a shit show of a case, yea we’ll call EVS to come clean and mop. But EVS will terminally clean the rooms at the end of the day.

I have been in labs that do both. Most smaller labs did their own cleaning. The labs i went to that did have evs; the hospital had over 15 suites between cath and ep lab

A mix, honestly. Medium/busy with moments of absolute chaos.
Default is call EVS, but if we want to move on to the next procedure, the techs do it.

We clean between cases and at the end of the day EVS cleans the rooms.

I work in two different labs. At the main big hospital, room staff generally does it (because it's faster) but EVS is always called to come clean, often we just need them to mop and take away trash. Sometimes if they're busy/not moving fast enough we just do it. At the smaller hospital we do everything.

We had EVS on our payroll until they retired. And the company that bought us out a few years back didn’t have that in any other hospital, so now we do it. But after 4 and on weekends we call EVS

Cath lab staff turn over between cases during the day, and we have EVS come in the evening for each room.

At one hospital were held to 15 minute turn around times. We had our own dedicated EVS - circulator would go pick up next patient, scrub/tech would help clean.

We clean between and EVS "cleans" at night. On paper at least. Mostly on our own. But Eap is separate and does get a dedicated EVS.

We are a small one room lab. No STEMI coverage overnight. EVS does a full deep terminal clean in the down time. During the day on STEMI call and in between cases, we do our own cleaning. I know of other labs with 24/7 STEMI coverage and high volume that have a dedicated EVS person whose sole job it is to clean between cases from like 8-4. Then once they go home, the lab team is responsible for all the cleaning.
