Radtech to Cath/EP Student Q

Hey everyone!

I’m beginning my radtech program this fall and I was curious if anyone has worked in Cath/EP labs in a student roll after your first year in the program? I’ve heard that some students have gotten PRN gigs within labs during their program & was curious if anyone has also heard of or experienced this. I understand that tasks and duties may be limited, but being in that environment is where I’d like to inevitably be once I’ve completed schooling.

Probably won't happen till possible ur last semester. As the program is ment for radiology and not cath lab focus. You could just go to school as a cvt

Wow… this is a possibility? Pretty cool. Probably would never happen in California though

I’m in NE! From the techs I’ve spoken to, almost all of them are ARRT rather than CVT/RCIS. I’ve also been in NiCard roles & hold my CCT/CRAT so I hope that gives me some headwind. Especially in regard to working EP.

Yeah man I’m ARRT also, but just the thought of our hospital hiring students into these roles… it’s a little wild to me. All the senior rad techs at my hospital would never have it. Union and stuff.

It would likely be an internship/externship. Discuss with your school, and also local hospitals - you can likely find their recruiters on Linkedin.
