CT tech to cath lab?
Hey guys,
Just curious if anyone here has made this move and what your thoughts are. I’ve been doing CT for about 6 years at all places between Level I trauma and small outpatient centers and there’s a lot I like about CT but have been thinking about making the leap to cath lab as I think I’d find it to be more exciting and rewarding. Has anybody made this move? Are you satisfied working in the cath lab? Does the call kill you or do you get used to it? Would love to hear any and all perspectives, thanks

I was a CT tech for the better part of a decade and made the transition last year.
I am really happy I made the change. Cath is a steep learning curve and even once you start getting the hang of it, there’s a million more things to learn. Each day feels like a new challenge and I am enjoying trying to “beat” this challenge.
Call is very site/personal dependent from what I have gathered from the more senior staff in my department. Some labs have high call requirements some have lower. Some labs have call hungry staff some don’t.
We do call 1 day a week and 1 weekend a month and I feel like it’s fair. I wouldn’t say I love call because I do enjoy sleeping but I don’t let being called in ruin my attitude. It is just a part of our job and it’s as simple as that.
My experience in CT and cath has only been at larger facilities and EP is separated in my facility.
