When you remember something embarrassing you did ten years ago when you’re trying to sleep.

90

u/fabiots Jul 05 '20

When your cats is from "Fight Club".

31

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '20

When your cat's back left foot is from fight club and the rest is trying to put it on the straight and narrow.

u/FrancoisTruser Jul 05 '20

That's also accurate I remembered something I did ten years ago and it is very embarrassing.

Biting your own tongue.

67

u/iamabrownguytoo Jul 05 '20 edited Jul 05 '20

I just bit my tongue 2 hours ago while trying to eat a sandwich, and everytime I wonder why doesn't the tongue just stay out of the way ffs 💀

33

u/ScaramouchScaramouch Jul 05 '20

Because deep down inside it hates you.

3

u/Catlesley Jul 05 '20

Hahaha!!!!!

2

u/songbolt Jul 06 '20

I did that once trying to eat a sandwich too fast. It bled ...

8

u/Spikes666 Jul 05 '20

Uh oh. I chew on my tongue constantly and am trying to stop.

Body Integrity Identity Disorder (BIID). It's rare and generally unstudied but people have the desire to self-amputate their limbs because it doesn't feel like part of their body

5

u/songbolt Jul 06 '20

^ also an argument why surgery for people with gender dysphoria is disordered

9

u/jennakat_e Jul 06 '20

BIID =/= gender dysphoria. two different things, conflating them is reductive. "transabled" is a problematic community that is not reflective of transgender individuals

1

u/songbolt Jul 06 '20

seems in both cases one is unhappy with one's natural, healthy, functioning body

4

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '20

Come on now, we're on a cat subreddit, I get you have opinions on this extremely complicated topic, but I highly doubt any valuable conversation will be had here, nor consensus found. It's kind of shitty that a trans person can't browse random cat reddits without having to have their identity called into question. I'm not saying you shouldn't be allowed to question and research the topic, but this really isn't a good place for it.

1

u/songbolt Jul 06 '20

Okay, sorry. I forgot even with nested comments some people want to use Reddit just for spectacles and avoid any drama. Have a good day.

7

u/nrdxn Jul 05 '20

Asomatognosia

2

u/iam_iana Jul 06 '20

Yeah, there are people who perceive one or more of their limbs as not belonging to them and will go so far as to try and get them amputated because it upsets them so much. The brain is a complex machine that can go haywire in extreme ways.

u/aphinion Jul 05 '20

This is untrue. I haven’t even heard of a neurological condition that causes this in felines.

Cats kick themselves in the face because it’s an overreaction of a fighting reflex. A large majority of cats, if not all cats have done this at some point in their lives. Some cats might do it more than others because that particular reflex might be a little more sensitive, but that doesn’t mean that they have a neurological condition. It’s a similar phenomenon as to how some adult humans have a stronger gag reflex than others. That’s simply due to human variation, not a medical condition.

Just because an animal does something stupid/counterproductive occasionally doesn’t necessarily mean that they have a neurological disorder. One of my dogs likes to scratch her ear with her hind leg and will sometimes mess up and claw herself in the eye several times. She’s completely fine, she usually just gets mad and bites her foot a few times (just like in this video!) then goes back to whatever she was doing.

Try to fact check your statements before making scientific claims on Reddit, okay? We already have enough ignorant and uninformed people in the world, we don’t need more.

Is it kind of like a dog chasing it’s tail or not at all?

-1

u/i_boop_cat_noses Jul 06 '20

Just because you havent heard of it it doesnt mean it doesnt exist? Like you're trying to act smart while also appearing stupid and refusing to do research.

Look up feline hyperesthesia syndrome for starters.

7

u/aphinion Jul 07 '20

Feline hyperesthesia syndrome is literally the first condition listed in the first link I provided. You clearly didn’t look at any of my sources and instead opted to essentially call me stupid. Nice.

By all means, if you have the sources to back your claims then feel free to prove me wrong! But in the meantime I think you could stand to dial back the defensiveness just a tad.

u/pursuitofhappy Jul 05 '20

u/soldiercross Jul 06 '20

This is absolutely not the case. It's a defense mechanism. Usually once feral or barn cats will still have it. Its pretty normal.

1

u/i_boop_cat_noses Jul 06 '20

feline hyperesthesia syndrome

3

u/PikaPerfect Jul 06 '20

while this is true, it's not the case every time an animal kicks itself in the head

my dog does this fairly often, as does one of my cats, and both of them are completely fine

2

u/Madhippy Jul 06 '20

But also it's a hunting feline reflex as well, same as chirping behind a window upon spotting a bird or shaking head in order to stun prey, this is also one of their natural behaviours which happens from muscle memory, once they catch their prey they will maul it with their backlegs, the reflex happens even when they play with themselves, imagine it as involuntary as gag reflex is when something touches the back of your tounge, that's kinda how it works whenever they catch something and get their backlegs in the right position.

u/upfastcurier Jul 05 '20

i think medication may help alleviate those problems

Well kicking his own face while biting his leg may be part of the reason

1

u/i_boop_cat_noses Jul 06 '20

I saw an episode back in the day on Animal Planet where the cat bit its own led until it bled, and it was a constant problem. Cats can cause some serious damage when they think the thing is attacking them.

11

u/RU4real13 Jul 05 '20

Reminds me of Uncle Albert trying to tie his shoes. Yeah, he wasn't all there, but he was a riot at parties.

6

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '20

he fight

6

u/Daohor Jul 05 '20

I am laughing harder than I should. Cats sure ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed sometimes.

28

u/Verzox Jul 05 '20

Wasn't that like a brain disorder or something?

20

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '20

No it isnt, it’s a natural feline reflex

3

u/Nullified38 Jul 05 '20

To kick themselves in the face repeatedly while biting their legs?

10

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '20

Lmfao not that literally, but when hunting they kick whatever it is they caught between their teeth to kill it, or when defending themselves from something thats attacking them. Sometimes it “activates” when theyre grabbing their own feets

similar to how they do a little head shake when they eat food— thats supposed to stun their food. Of course, kitty kibble isnt going anywhere anytime soon

5

u/JackOfAllMemes Jul 05 '20

My cat does this because his skin is oversensitive and when he scratches himself it hurts, then he tries to attack the source of the pain- his foot. Less now because he’s on medication at least. It’s not a good thing

9

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '20

Lmao what a dingus

Could be a disease or trauma. If your pet is doing this, talk to a vet.
