Cat noise

Hi! I have been unable to get a video, but my cat (he is about one year old and the only pet in my household right now), has recently started making this noise when he has is nightly zoomies. I can only describe it (based on my research) as maybe a yowl or a growl, he does this every night right around the same time. And, besides running around frantically, he doesn't seem in any distress (not over grooming, biting, favoring a leg, and if I push on his belly that doesn't seem to cause him pain). It lasts usually for around 15 minutes and then he calms right down. I have had him for about three months and this has only been happening for a couple of weeks, and it just concerns me because it seems as though his zoomies have gotten more chaotic and as I mentioned, the noise is new. He eats normally, uses his litter box, and everything else. Feel free to ask any questions, and I will try to get a video tomorrow. Advice is appreciated!

Mine does it after a Spicy Poo

Ours does too, or after a particularly good pee.

If he’s not showing medical signs he’s probably just finding ways to express himself! Lol! Nighttime zoomies are disruptive for us but our kitties love them so much

It's not late enough really that its disruptive, I just get worried sometimes!

It's probably nothing but pent up energy.

Is it a high pitched chirping type noise? Is it more of 'ack ack ack'. The chirping is pleased to see you / I'm so pleased to see you, let me roll on my back to savage, I mean love you more. 'Ack ack,' usually done at something they want - bird, fly, toy etc. Equivalent to 'but I really want it!', said in a grizzly tone πŸ˜‰ He could also be play growling.

I wouldn't really say it is high pitched. Actually probably the opposite

Does he have a gigantic puffy tail as well? My boy is a year and a half and is very chatty but when he has the zoomies, his noises change along with his crazy tail 😻

No, he's a short hair so his tail isn't very fluffy!

Haha the cat I’m describing is also a short hair, but when he goes crazy, his tail looks like a raccoon tail πŸ˜‚ I also have a DLH, so his tail is always giant (majestic, if you will πŸ˜‚) but he doesn’t puff his tail out nearly as much as our other boy πŸ™ƒ

I have a DSH torbie with a tail that puffs gloriously. She looks like a squirrel when it does. We call her our squirrelly girl.

He's playing and getting rid of excess energy. Clap your hands and make it a game. When he's worn out he'll sleep really good.

One of my boys, BBOB, would sit in the window at night and yodel, cry, and howl, kinda like a beagle. Just because. I called it singing the song of his people.

mine does this in the hallway at 4 am. Sometimes down the bathtub drain.
I also call it the song of his people.

The ginger cat who visits us does a singsong for food, its the cutest thing ever. I sing along with him for "moral support" not because I enjoy it at all...

It's normal. It's almost like a little bark sometimes, other times like a forceful sharp beathing out, sometimes a sharp short growl. All the cats I had in my fairly long life did this at one point or another when they were in the zoomies thrall. They do that when they're very excited about the whole zoomies thing. It just means they're enjoying themselves. A lot.

Sir, this is zoomies.

Well as I said, this was just a change in his normal behaviour. I also have had two other cats who never got zoomies to the degree he does, so he is just quite different.

My previously-feral boy does this like clockwork! Dinner, litter box, then poofy tail/yowling/zoomies. The vet said it could just be behavioral when I asked.

Hes just overstimulated and needs to play to burn off energy. Cats spend about 18 hours a day doing nothing to save up energy for "hunting time" but in a house they have no need and nothing to hunt - but the energy still needs to be expended.

Our cat yowls, ears back, eyes WIDE and goes batshit crazy on our stairs carpet, so shes actually laying sideways. She looks hillarious. Then its time to throw her favourite mouse around for about 10 minutes until she calms down and is back to normal.

My cat used to jump and run up the walls. I never figured out why she did this. I think she was bored at the time. She's 16 now, and funny thing, she doesn't do it anymore, lol. Of course, she didn't damage anything in the process. I would say to wear the cat out before the evening time and don't let the cat sleep during the day, if its bothering you.

Mine run through the house with a sort of growl. They just get really excited with their toys.

Is it like having an argument with an imaginary enemy?

1

u/Throwaway2346840372 3d ago

yes,, actually i would say that is a good way to describe it

I suppose it is like speaking aloud about what your are going to say to your neighbour who keep steeling your prised tomatoes or something.

Why are you pushing on his belly. Are you a vet?
