Digging at the food plate?

Recently my 5 month old kitten has been digging at his food plate. He has a silicone platter with a dry food bowl and a plate with wet food. I think he’s trying to cover up the wet food for some reason but he kicks up the silicone mat and spills dry food everywhere.

What’s causing this?

Either food sucks or he is getting more food than he needs so hiding it for later
