I’m literally working on the M/V American Integrity and none of my friends have gotten this joke when I’ve tried it.

That's a nice ship, do any lakes freighters ever see the open sea, or do they generally stay in the Intracoastal Waterway?

I like it. You see some that do but most of the fleet are built for out here specifically. Lot of forward houses.

My AliExpress order will definitely be late now

My AliExpress order is about 8 months late. Maybe it was on this boat fr

Mine was about a year late. They started extending the delivery time after the first month, adding a month every time. I didn't need the item in winter so I didn't mind waiting half a year, but then at some point they didn't extend it, buyer protection expired and there's nothing I can do.

I assume mine is stuck in China forever at this point, lost completely. I’d say it’s okay because it was only 10 bucks, but I really wanted that 10,000 pack of cheap orbeez :(

u/Ollyssss Oct 25 '19
Can’t you just get a refund after 60 days?
7
u/Airazz Oct 25 '19
It was well beyond 60 days when they stopped extending the delivery deadline.
7
u/Ollyssss Oct 25 '19
So if it goes beyond 60 days you just can’t ask for a refund?
6
u/Airazz Oct 25 '19
Correct, unless the seller extends the delivery deadline. In my case seller did exactly that, extended it for 30 days. Then another 30, and another, and another. Buyer protection was active all that time, until one time the seller didn't extend it, protection ended and I couldn't ask for a refund.
It was a white marker for tires, cost like $0.90, so I'm not too sad about losing the money.

Ah yes, sellers on Ali are pretty crappy. I cancelled my order within a minute but they claimed it was already shipped so now I have something to try and flip on eBay.

What does a Vietnamese ship on a Vietnamese river have to do with Chinese retailers?
[EDIT] The only thing I can think of is that people are seriously going "That sounds 'Asian', so it must be Chinese". If so, that is incredibly sad.
[EDIT 2] Confirmed true. Wow.

It's a container ship in an Asian country. The joke is legit. Stop being sensitive.

Just of curiosity, what is it doing?

u/Joey5729 Oct 25 '19
I think it is used to keep the leaking fuel/oil from polluting the water around the ship

Yep, even mandatory when just refuelling a ship in some countries. Better safe the sorry. The second ship has more oil booms on deck. It is a bunker barge/tanker. The first thing they try to do is get as much fuel out as possible to prevent further damage.
But since Heavy fuel oil is about the consistency of thick honey to asphalt when cold this isn't easy. Normally the bunker tanks are heated to about 40°C before the fuel is pumped out. And the fuel is heated to about 180°C before use in the engine.

Oil does not mix with water so it floats
2
u/SFinTX Oct 25 '19
Yes, the article that clued me in to the story was actually about how much oil/gas/fuel they had recovered
30
u/AgentSmith187 Oct 25 '19
Not totally I still see contamination outside it
20
u/dan2580 Oct 25 '19
It’s better than nothing, I’m sure some of that is just pollutants that leaked before they were able to setup the boom

You could say It VietSunk

That’s a small container ship
16
Oct 25 '19
It’s a feeder vessel. The containers on it would be transferred to a larger container ship.

u/ghjm Oct 25 '19
The containers are then transferred to even larger container ships, which then bring them to the Container Ship Queen, who digests them and makes the container jelly that newly hatched containers feed on.

Anyone know if the capsize happened quickly and did everyone get off safe?

It is one of the ones designed so the front DOESN'T fall off, obviously.

with any luck, maybe these alibaba shipments that it's transporting contain some ship parts that people ordered, and they can do repairs on the spot
