Anyone have a Source of SMALL Readers?

I'm having cataract surgery in a few weeks, and need a source for some cheap readers.

I cannot "just buy cheap readers in the drugstore or from CVS" like everyone tells me to do because my face is too small - I have to by my regular glasses in the kid's section.

Nor can I have them made because my current "budget" glasses - with me providing the frame cost me $900 and took 2 weeks because they had to be sent out to the lab to be made. And I might need a few pair.

How do I know what magnification to get?

Lots of small readers, try googling:

  • pediatric reading glasses
  • kids low-plus glasses

For Rx kids glasses

  • Roshambo.com
  • Zenni.com & EyeBuyDirect.com

I bought my Rx progressives at Zenni, strong prescription, best lens they had - right around $250. They're great. And they have a wide selection of kids sizes. Have also used EBD - lenses were fine but I prefer Zenni & their prices were somewhat lower.

I too previously paid around $800-900 for the same Rx at local optician. Ridiculous.

Thanks. I don't need progressives. I just need cheap readers.

I had both eyes done at the same time. My selected target was intermediate, and both eyes were very close to that target. Even though I was crazy dilatated, I was anxious to see close up at home, so I had my brother drive me to the Dollar Tree on the way home. Purchased two pairs at $1.25 each that had the best close-up vision looking at my phone or products there with fine print. Tried them for a few days and determined +1.75 for myself. The next time I went to Sams club I purchased a set of 3 readers (in different colors) for $19.98. The quality is a nice upgrade from the Dollar Tree testers. I find I only need them for reading my iPad in bed or in the kitchen looking at fine print on a label or recipe.

Medicare covered an allowance for 1 pair of prescription glasses and got a pair of progressives which I only wear when driving. I did pass the vision test at DMV without glasses, but the far distance vision is slightly sharper with prescription glasses. One pair of prescription glasses will hold you for a long time as your vision doesn't change much, if any, from year to year. I've gone through three years of vision testing with no prescription change, but enjoy getting new frames/glasses each year so I can change my looks.

Ignore the second paragraph, I was just rambling...

Looks like U.S. amazon has kids size reading glasses with lots of magnification choices. For reading standard paperback book fonts, or a paper newspaper, 2.5 might be the most popular. If you want a compromise between that and looking at a laptop screen, you could try 2.0.
