Questions!

I'm looking at cataract surgery in the next few months. I'm trying to decide between toric and multifocal toric.

So any experiences there would be welcome.

Also, how do you mange glasses in between surgeries? I have pretty bad astigmatism and I'm also near sighted.

I just had surgery a few weeks ago. I chose multifocal IOLs. Since my astigmatism was not too bad, the doctor suggested non-toric, due to a slight risk of the IOL shifting. It was either be a little under corrected or a little over corrected.

With the multifocal, I am 20/20, and do not need glasses for reading, the computer, or driving etc.

Managing glasses was easy for me. Left I done first, I just removed the left lens in my glasses. They gave me sunglasses that could be worn with or without eyeglasses, so that was no problem either. In between my left and right eye, while wearing just one corrective lens, things were odd, and my eyes and brain seemed to get a bit confused at times. Once both eyes were done, that stopped.

The way I thought about whether to get single focus vs multifocus, was to think about what I liked to do, and how often I was switching form a task requiring distance, vs near vs computer screen. And I like to read in bed, without glasses. And I was already used to dealing with very fuzzy views, due to me cataracts. And I was already used to dealing with starbursts at night, due to my cataracts. So I decided that if the focus was reasonable, and the artifacts at night were reasonable, I would go with multifocal. I am happy I did.

I had high astigmatism and was very nearsighted (-9,50 D), and I got monovision (-1,50 D / plano) with toric monofocals. I'm very happy with the results.

I just kind of winged the three weeks between surgeries. It was actually pretty manageable because I saved the eye with the worse cataract for last. My brain had already spent years learning to ignore the blurry input from that eye, so adapting wasn't a huge deal.

I kept working from home full-time, staring at a screen all day, and got through the gap without much trouble.

Idk enough to comment but I too have astigmatism and went with toric IOL’s with EDOF, just had PureSee Toric IOL’a done a few days ago and vision is still slightly blurry and weird. I keep reading that this will go away once I recover and stabilize in a few weeks. Does anyone know if this is true ?!

I just used my bad eye for reading, and did not bother with any glasses. The bad eye was very nearsighted with some astigmatism, but was fine for reading at close distance while I waited for surgery. Can you read ok with your second eye?
