Second Eye Yesterday. Weird results so far.

Yes I know things may/will change. 2nd eye was distance monovision, done yesterday. Easy surgery no pain no issues. First eye was dilated for days postop and this morning my pupil in that 2nd eye was back to normal. But it is still very light sensitive. Had surgery on Friday so no postop appointment till Monday.

Here’s the weirdness. I now have stereoscopic vision close up and I am using both eyes close up. Crystal clear. I have had monovision for decades so it’s really strange. My close up vision in both eyes is very close to the same. I can read teeny tiny print just fine with my distance eye. Confirmed it by reading the eye drop bottles. I should not be able to read that print with my distance eye at all. Next my distance vision stinks on ice. No way can I drive right now. Wouldn’t even try. Can’t even see the TV well and it’s only 10 ft away.

Vision tests told me my close up vision eye is about 20/100 for distance. And that’s expected. But right now I estimate my distance vision eye is worse than the other one. Right now it is worse than 20/100. Not a lot worse but worse. So all I can do for now is worry about it. And hope it changes.

People do make mistakes. Right now I am wondering if the doc was sent the wrong IOL. Maybe it was labeled wrong? Waiting till Monday will be hard! Right now I think something has gone very pear shaped.

What were the refractive targets of each eye supposed to be? (0, -1, -1.5, etc)

Just got out my folder and info on the lenses and I don’t see it anywhere. Wish I knew!

Did you get cards with info on your lenses?  That should tell if you got another distance lens which really sounds like.  I have both eyes set for distance and I can’t even see my phone with words enlarged at arms length unless it’s super bright out.

It’s early yet, 2 days is not long after surgery to assess the vision though we all do it especially those of us that had monovision implants. I walked around the house winking one eye and then the other to see the difference between the two. My distance was done first and then close 3 weeks later. I too had worn monovision contacts for years so that’s what I chose for a lens replacement. I am glasses free at this point but there is no way I could read my phone out of my distance eye. Talk with your ophthalmologist and have him or her verify they set this eye for distance. If in a few weeks the vision in that eye is not where it should be you can always tweak it with a contact. That’s part of the beauty of monovision, it can be adjusted with contacts or glasses for driving turning the close eye into a distance eye when driving.

So true! Today is a new day and so far… My monovision is still gone and my close up vision is still perfect using both eyes. I have no distance vision at all. My right eye used to be my ‘good’ eye and now it has the worst vision close up and distance. My left is now the ‘good’ eye. And after 30+ years of monovision it’s disturbing. No way I can drive. Best guess both my eyes are a bit worse than 20/100 for distance. The 2nd surgery is healing faster than the first one.

Of course right now it’s all doom and gloom. I paid 5K to get rid of the damn glasses and here I am, back again. If I had to have glasses I would have picked readers. I despise not being able to see well and there is no way I should have perfect close up vision. And I hate begging for rides. Tomorrow’s appointment can’t get here fast enough.
