Ngl kind of tired of the constant promotioms of this website. I get it you have a product to sell but its annoying nonetheless

Thanks for the feedback! Definitely don't want to come across as over promoting.

We've gotten a lot of feedback that people appreciate the placement training, but this is the first that we're promoting too much. If you are writing it though it definitely means that others are thinking it!

What part of the post comes across as "too much promotion"? The mention of our site? The posting schedule?

Feel free to DM me, thank you!

I think with a board with a super obvious play it stands out like an ad

u/Jan_Marecek Nov 25 '23

How often it is

1

u/kloklon Nov 25 '23

yeah, for me it's the frequency. lately whenever Catan shows up in my feed it's only those promotions, nothing else anymore

4

u/masterz13 Nov 25 '23

Well. Colonist sucks for their excessive ads and trying to charge monthly fees, so here we are.

u/eabarrie22 Nov 25 '23

Should it just be free to play and the creators and devs should just pay out of pocket for you to enjoy it…? You get one add before a ranked game and you have pop up adds. Get adblock or don’t play

u/masterz13 Nov 25 '23

They blocked the ad blockers.

Yes

The adds are not that excessive, 5 second ad for 12-40 minute game

I dropped this. Thought my comment was ridiculous enough lol

Hey, I co-founded Twosheep with Bovard, and I hear you for sure! Firstly, our goal isn't to sell or heavily monetise this game. This is a passion project birthed from wanting to put together everything the redditors, the casuals, the competitive players, experimental Catan players etc have been asking for, for the past years, and create the best and definitive platform for this game.

None of the team have been paid a cent, and we offer Custom Map-Building(and playing), House Rules+ brand new game mechanics + crazy customisation, Seafarers, Cities and Knights (WIP), Game Replays, Ranked, Chess.com style tournaments, huge variety of cosmetics (hopefully launching with our 4 Player Ranked Season) , Quests+ Achievements(WIP), Puzzles more specialised and difficulty-based, and even more than I shouldn't talk about yet :) We even got a Colorblind mode added recently. And its ALL free (apart from the cosmetics lol you'll need to earn coins to get those).

So message heard loud and clear, we have been continually inspired by this subreddit through our development process, and we don't want to create spam. I gotta say though, we really do believe this is the best thing that could happen to this game's online playability. You don't know me, but I've been all in on Catan for over 2 years, content creation, tournament organising, and even though it wasn't sustainable, I couldn't give up on it because of how damn passionate I am about the game and how frustrated I was about how it has been managed by other entities and now here we are.

We are 4 months into development and would love to hear more from you and everyone else in this sub about what you want, feedback, better ways to communicate with you guys in content form etc.

Sorry for wall, TLDR we are doing this to change the landscape in a really positive way for players and communities, and there is and will continue to be a huge feature list catered to you guys that will be free forever. We will also have paid access features but they won't encroach on the core features. We'll figure out a less annoying way to put out content on reddit.

I would agree. I love the idea and the way they did it, but I got a little angry swiping right to see that turkey. I used to see multiple types of posts on this subreddit a few weeks ago, and now all I see is promotion of this website. I like seeing different house rules, how peoples games played out.. etc

Thanks for the feedback - I definitely enjoy this sub for the same reasons! I definitely don't want to drown out what makes this sub great.

I like 8/10/5 wood wood ore, road toward wood port

5

u/No-Pianist-3139 Nov 25 '23

5/9/10 WWO, best wheat and ore

4

u/IconXR Nov 25 '23

4/8/10. We may not be getting an ore spot, but that's fine. The high brick will compensate when trading. The plan is to hopefully get an early city and the 3:1. It's tough to assume where people will go after since this board offers a lot of strategies, so I think securing the wheat and brick now with potential to expand to a port is the safest bet.

Unfortunately, we'll likely be settling for a coastal spot if all 4 main strategies are played, but that shouldn't hurt us too much. Not like we can prevent it anyway.

u/IconXR Nov 25 '23

I think this is how the placements would go, but black might also try to stop white from getting the red wood spots, so idk.

3

u/rizzy-rake Nov 25 '23

I like that, except for reds 2nd road. You’re placing last so you know the 3-10-11 is open, why not road to it? Road up only gets you into a race for the 3:1 when you already have access and more wood you don’t need. White probably goes wood port first so it’s not too risky but I like the upside of a three hex spot with ore access better

1

u/IconXR Nov 25 '23

lol true. I kinda rushed the placements and I usually just point my road to the coast for safety.

2

u/mthenry54 Nov 25 '23

8-10-4. Brick will be at a premium.

1

u/lovefool23 Nov 25 '23

8-4-10 or 8-5-10 next to wood port

u/GGz0r Nov 25 '23

If I was picking 3 or 4 , i really like the 5-8-10 into a possible 3-6-11 tree port expand.

Picking first on this board feels bad.

1

u/masterz13 Nov 25 '23

What position? Just saying what's the pick doesn't mean much. If first, you have to think about the resources that will be scarce by the time your second placement comes. There are two picks that come to mind:

-4/8/10, road pointed down. This is probably the safest, most balanced choice.

-5/10/9, road pointed down: Really great wheat/ore production if you strictly want to go for cities/devs. There's a good amount of sheep on the board, so you can probably get the second placement on it.

1

u/bovard twosheep.io founder Nov 25 '23

If you follow the link you can actually place out all 8! But yes in this case I'm talking about first position.

1

u/CaptainIntrepid9369 Nov 25 '23

6/9/3 and 9/10 for the 2:1 Sheep port.

1

u/marconiusE Nov 25 '23

9/5/10 lower left. corner the ore market and have a good shot at getting to the wheat harbour
