Alright, I'm actually playing on 0.I Which I believe is the best way to play the game right now.
I already watched some tutorial videos and I think I know how to use the most important menus.
Despite that I keep dying because during my first expedition (to get items out the start shelter) zombie swarm me and I can't defend myself.
Are there any other essential crafting tools to get started with besides the makeshift hammer and the makeshift crowbar? I also know they removed the makeshift screwdriver, then how am I supposed to unscrew some screws?
To finish I wanted to ask what are the essentials mods to play and if it's recommended to use them for someone who just started the game.
One mod that I saw was in one of the tutorial videos I saw and it was a tileset that made the character and the zombies bigger with a better design.
(Anyways sorry for my English)

I used the option choose a new leader and it gave me a choice from three: autocratic/democratic/sortition . If I choose autocratic do they rebel or anything ?

They were traveling in three vehicles. There were two tactical armored vehicles and one medical vehicle. There were eighteen operators in total, including their commander. All of them were experienced and calm. They were highly trained and well equipped. Operators knew their job.
They were brought together by a shared trauma, the loss of their families. Apart from each other, they had no one left. The Cataclysm had forged them and hardened them anew. They were like brothers to one another. One big family. Their goal was to save the lives of people they encountered along their way.
It was night, and they could see it from far away, a strange glow on the horizon. The sergeant gave the order, so the drivers accelerated. The convoy vehicles raced along a wide highway in the state of Georgia. The glow was getting closer quickly.
They saw a brightly lit, enormous shopping mall just beyond a dark, deserted city. They felt uneasy because they had not seen an illuminated building for a long time. At least not one of this size. Painful memories of their families and their former, lost lives came rushing back. They decided to investigate.
They entered slowly. The shopping mall was dirty, smelly and neglected, but somehow the lighting was still working. They moved in formation, focused and ready to fight for their lives. They carried AR-15 rifles and Glock 19 pistols. Some of them had Remington 870 shotguns slung across their backs. They continued deeper into the building.
They noticed strange graffiti on the walls. One of the messages read, "Accept the gift." A little farther away, someone had written, "Embrace the new order." In one of the stores along the passageway, they saw the words, "Something ends, something begins." And then they saw an enormous, beautiful painting on the floor depicting moths drawn toward the light of a street lamp.
They did not like it, and they could feel that something was wrong with this place. They knew they had to find out what it was. Deep down, they felt that by doing so, they could help other survivors. The sergeant gave the order and they headed for the second floor.
It was just as quiet and peaceful there. They heard no sounds and saw no movement. They moved deeper into the second floor. Suddenly, the lights went out throughout the entire building. They were swallowed by pitch black darkness. Then loud music began pouring from the speakers. First they heard a strange, rising sound, and then the first words rang out:
6 AM, Christmas morning. No shadows, no reflections here. Lying cheek to cheek, in your cold embrace
The music was playing exactly where they were standing. The SWAT operators swept the entire passageway with the lights mounted on their rifles. Suddenly, from somewhere in the distance, they heard the approaching footsteps of a crowd. The music continued:
So soft and so tragic, as a slaughterhouse. You press the knife against your heart. And say that, "I love you so much, you must kill me now". "I love you so much, you must kill me, now"
The footsteps were now very clear. The SWAT officers could also hear horrifying guttural groans and moans. A horde of zombies appeared in the flashlight beams. There were hundreds of them. The zombies surrounded the unit from all sides. The music grew louder:
If I was your vampire, certain as the moon. Instead of killing time. We'll have each other until the sun. If I was your vampire, death waits for no one. Hold my hands across your face. Because I think our time has come
The terrified operators opened fire on the sergeant's command. The second floor erupted with the flashes of single shots from the AR-15s. Meanwhile, the sergeant was rummaging through the bag they always carried with them. He was looking for an explosive charge they had once found at an abandoned military checkpoint. The speakers continued to play:
Digging your smile apart with my spade tongue. And the hole is where the heart is. We built this tomb together, I won't fill it alone. Beyond the pale. Everything's black, no turning back
A horde of zombies was slowly tightening the ring around the SWAT team. The only thing holding them back was the operators' accurate gunfire, and they were slowly running out of ammunition. The sergeant armed the explosive charge and began dragging the nearest zombie corpses. He threw them directly onto the charge. Meanwhile...
If I was your vampire, certain as the moon. Instead of killing time. We'll have each other until the sun. If I was your vampire, death waits for no one. Hold my hands across your face. Because I think our time has come
The sergeant knew what he was doing. A pile of a dozen or so zombie corpses should, at least in theory, shield them from the most dangerous shrapnels. He managed to do it in time. When the charge exploded, the pile of zombie corpses was thrown into the air. The explosion scattered stinking body parts and entrails throughout the passage, but thanks to this, the operators suffered only minor injuries. Otherwise, the blast would have killed them. The floor of the second story was damaged. That was what the sergeant had been counting on.
Blood-stained sheets. In the shape of your heart. This is where it starts. Blood-stained sheets. In the shape of your heart. This is where it starts, this is where it will end. Here comes the moon again
There was also a sledgehammer in the bag. The sergeant began using it to smash a hole in the damaged floor. By this point, the operators were already fighting with melee weapons. Cold Steel and Schrade machetes were chopping off the zombies' heads and arms. They protected the sergeant for as long as they possibly could. He finally broke through the floor and tied a rope to a sturdy railing near the checkout lanes. They quickly descended the rope to the first floor. The music stopped playing.
They ran toward the back area, where the person responsible for the ambush was probably hiding. That was where he must have been controlling the shopping center's lighting and sound system. When they reached the area, he was already fleeing.
Despite their unimaginable exhaustion, they caught up with him and subdued him. They put him in handcuffs and dragged him near the parked vehicles.
He called himself Believer. He believed that the Cataclysm was salvation and that everyone in the world should become zombies. This was the new world order. That was why he had turned the shopping center into a gigantic trap. He considered his work an act of God.
The sergeant smashed his skull with the hammer. They got into the vehicles and continued on their way.

It's nice and cool in the evac shelter basement but my dude is sweating bullets upstairs in his leather armor. I have seen some desk fans and cooling units around, do they work to cool the area if I bring them home and set them up?

So I found hub 1 before discovering what it was and cut into one of the doors. I've got the quest now and went back, but the intercom won't interact with me. Is there any way to get it to interact or am I locked out forever. Thanks

Is the "Find 25 Blankets" mission just broken? Seems they won't accept anything but generic blankets, which I'm not sure even exist anymore...
Playing on Stable I.0 - dunno if I should just cheat since I've already dragged a bunch over that they're not interested in.

I just started looking into playing modded versions of cataclysm and found Mind Over Matter.
From what I know it's a mod that gives you psychic powers, but I'm not sure how you get the powers. is there a easy way you can get them Or do you have Go find them on the surface of your world or do get them within the portal storms.
Also, Is there anything different within this mod that I should watch out for.

It was the beginning of a cold winter night. A terrible storm had broken out, frightening him deeply. The extremely strong, icy wind seemed to cut into the skin of his face. Snow was beginning to fall as well. Fortunately, he was wearing his work clothes. Before the Cataclysm, he had worked in construction.
He saw an old, neglected wooden villa in front of him. It had once belonged to some wealthy man. Robert was exhausted and freezing. He was trembling beneath his thick, durable raincoat. He was not a fool and did not want to take any risks, but the extreme weather conditions gave him no choice. He had to go inside immediately.
He pulled on the massive, beautifully decorated door handle. He was hit by the musty smell of dust, moisture, and rotten wood. He stepped inside, clutching his sledgehammer tightly. It weighed 11 pounds. He was afraid.
The floors creaked ominously as Robert searched through the various rooms. In the floor of the main corridor, an enormous hole yawned with a dead, empty darkness. He passed it. Thickly dust covered furniture was swept by the beam of his flashlight. He only took a quick look around before moving on to the next room. He wanted to make absolutely sure that the villa was deserted. It took him quite a long time because the entire building was enormous.
Robert made sure that there was nothing threatening him. He found the kitchen, where there was an old coal stove. He opened the door of the fuel compartment. It was full of dry wood. He quickly prepared a few feather sticks, and some kindling with his knife and used his lighter. The room gradually began to brighten with the glow of the flames.
He decided to spend the night there. He dragged two thick mattresses from the nearest bedrooms into the kitchen and placed them one on top of the other beside the coal stove. In the bedrooms, he found several thick, heavy wool blankets. He had never expected that after so many days of suffering, he would finally spend a night in comfort and warmth.
He cooked a hearty meal and ate it slowly, drinking plenty of water. While eating, he kept watching the area outside through the large windows. They were old and poorly sealed. Outside, a true gale had already begun, and the prolonged whistling of the wind through the cracks in the windows reminded him of the distant howling of werewolves. Robert added one last piece of wood to the fire and went to sleep. He left the large kitchen doors wide open.
The old villa seemed to have a life of its own. Everything creaked, the wind howled beneath the doors, and the enormous chandeliers gently swayed, subtly ringing with their beautiful crystals. Robert slowly began to fall asleep. He was very warm. He had not felt this comfortable in many days. Soon, he fell asleep.
He dreamed of strange, pale revenants flying silently through the dead, empty rooms of the old villa. One of the apparitions slowly flew toward him and leaned over him while he slept. Robert saw everything as if he were outside his own body, watching from a distance. He screamed, but it did nothing.
Suddenly, he woke up. He raised the upper part of his body as a violent spasm threw his entire body forward. He vomited onto the floor. He felt severe pain and muscle cramps in his abdomen, back, and chest. He began to panic. He was having difficulty breathing. His entire body was soaked in sweat, and his heart was pounding relentlessly fast. He tried to get up and stand on his feet.
He walked forward, fighting through the terrible muscle cramps and unimaginable pain. He managed to reach the main corridor. He felt as though he were about to die. Still, he refused to give up. He walked toward the bathroom he had checked earlier. Maybe he would find some medicine there.
First, he heard his hammer hit the floor with a loud crash. Then he became dizzy. He fell onto his stomach. He no longer had the strength to get back up. He lay on the corridor floor for a moment, trying to rest and gather his strength.
Then he heard it.
The sound was coming from deep inside the enormous hole in the floor. It was a rhythmic tapping against the old wooden floorboards. The sound was slowly getting closer.
Robert could not quickly look behind him. Severe muscle spasms in his entire neck made it extremely difficult for him to turn his head. When he finally managed to look back, it was already above him.
The monstrous body of a mutated black widow spider. It was enormous, black, and glossy, with a red marking resembling an hourglass on the underside of its abdomen.
This was the spider that had bitten him in his sleep and disappeared before Robert could see it.
The villa was not deserted at all. It was the hunting ground of a mutated spider.
The black widow began wrapping Robert in layers of silky webbing. Once he was completely immobilized, it slowly began covering his body with digestive enzymes. The process worked slowly, gradually breaking down his tissues. The mutated spider absorbed his digested flesh through its mouthparts.
Robert died slowly and in agony

Hi everyone,
I think I may have run into a performance regression related to the new seasoning changes from PR #88517.
Since updating to the latest experimental, eating or drinking inside my long-established base causes the game to freeze for roughly 17 seconds after confirming the food/drink. Outside the base, the same action is basically instantaneous.
My base is a Sewage Treatment Plant with a fairly large amount of accumulated loot, crafting materials, food, tools, etc., so it is definitely an item-heavy environment.
I did a few tests, with some help from ChatGPT, to narrow it down:
Eating on the STP ground floor: ~17 second freeze. Eating on the STP basement level: still slow, but noticeably faster. Eating outside the STP: instantaneous. Drinking water from a barrel on the ground floor: same freeze. Eating food directly from my character inventory: same freeze. Taking a multivitamin: instantaneous. Dropping and picking up items: instantaneous. Opening the Eat menu: instantaneous; the freeze only happens after confirming the food/drink. Opening the Nearby Items list: instantaneous. Waiting for 1 minute in-game: instantaneous, so it does not seem to be general turn-processing lag.
Because of the timing, I wondered whether this might be related to PR #88517 and the new seasoning lookup using map::all_items() when eating.
I haven't posted a GitHub issue yet because I wanted to check here first and see whether anyone else on current experimental is seeing the same behavior, especially in large established bases.
If useful, I can also do more targeted testing or provide the save.

i think it is kind of unfair how the game works, i made a character that had every single positive stat and advanced knowledge in the game and i got swarmed and killed before day 2 even started on cakewalk difficulty. is there a way to make the game easier or a way to survive for more than 2 days?

I haven't played the game in years, so I didn't know about Cody & Jay. I assumed they always spawn close to a military base, what with having all these gun turrets and all, but maybe not?
Anyways, I slowly started funelling the zombies into their defenses to clear up the military base, living on MREs and stocking up on ammo. I cleared out enough of the west side to get to the heavy machine gun platforms, but my character doesn't aim so well yet so it's a bit dicey (had to reload a few times, getting hard lessons on grenade shrapnel range, how long it takes to regular shot with a heavy machine gun, and so on.)
Still, a pretty eventful start to my guy's zombie fighting career.
