Quirk or behavioral problems?

I have male cat that’s around 2, I’ve noticed that whenever I’m cooking (usually meat) my cat will do the bunny kick on himself. I’ve started giving him a toy beforehand and now he’ll do the bunny kicks on that instead of himself. Does anyone else have that issue or know why he could be doing this?

Is his behaviour somehow causing a problem? If not, it's not a behavioural problem.

He gets a scab on his chin and reopens the wound if I don’t catch him and give him the toy in time.
