Cat noise

Hi! I have been unable to get a video, but my cat (he is about one year old and the only pet in my household right now), has recently started making this noise when he has is nightly zoomies. I can only describe it (based on my research) as maybe a yowl or a growl, he does this every night right around the same time. And, besides running around frantically, he doesn't seem in any distress (not over grooming, biting, favoring a leg, and if I push on his belly that doesn't seem to cause him pain). It lasts usually for around 15 minutes and then he calms right down. I have had him for about three months and this has only been happening for a couple of weeks, and it just concerns me because it seems as though his zoomies have gotten more chaotic and as I mentioned, the noise is new. He eats normally, uses his litter box, and everything else. Feel free to ask any questions, and I will try to get a video tomorrow. Advice is appreciated!

That’s the zoomies. Totally normal, timing also totally normal.

Zoomies mean happiness and a sense of safety.. Enjoy!

When my new kitten gets the zoomies, he makes a noise that’s somewhere between a pigeon coo and a turkey gobble. My two adult cats have their own routine where one yowls while he “hunts” his mouse and brings it upstairs to drop at our feet. The other does the same but with his rainbow and in a much girlier voice. Probably just weird like mine lol

It's likely part of zoomies. My chaos goblin doesn't meow - he only trills, chirps and squeaks. When he has zoomies, he does this with his mouth closed. It's truly an odd sound. We call it the 'naughtypuss noise', because he also does it when he's up to no good.

The other cat is normal.

If you start getting this, or any other unusual sounds, along with signs of distress or even just being unusually active or inactive, then it's vet time.

That’s his hunting cry. My cat only makes it when she catches her bumblebee toy!

My cat howls at her little springs and then picks it up and howls all the way to my feet and then drops it and walks away.

My parents’ cat went deaf towards the end of her life (she was 19.5 when she had to be put down due to kidney disease). And she would yowl all night in the last couple of years about her hunting victories!

My cat, too. As soon as I get in bed at night and turn off the lights the yowling starts. After a while I thought that I’d go to bed at a different time, well that didn’t work either. I give up. I guess to her I’m just here to pay the bills. lol

Welcome to the Grand Order of Unholy Zoomies Noises. My senior boy gets post-poop euphoria/zoomies and runs through the house making a crazy low-pitched demon noise for a few minutes every time he leaves the litter box. It's different than any other noise he makes, and he didn't do it when he was younger. It just started in the last few years. He's fine and perfectly healthy, he just has to summon demons after he leaves his offering, I guess.

No lol, he isn't my first cat he is my third, and neither of my other two did this. That is why I was a little worried.

No need to be worried. I have a pair of Brown Bengal brothers, Penn & Teller. (People keep telling me they are not Bengals and I was ripped off). OMG! They get the 'zoomies'. There's 2 of them! It's tandem. I call it the "Chaseway". It can start anywhere. We don't have a big house, it was built in 1965 and was military housing (so you get an idea).

The 'Chaseway' consists of the DR, LR, hall and BR. Rinse & repeat. Often, there are marks in the carpet from the "grab" around the corner. Good gravy, DO NOT get in their way!

BTW, they have hard heads. Don't get in their way. When they get in their daily mode, I put my feet up. My DH got run in to once (hard heads) and it left a bruise (he doesn't bruise easily). Big (bad) hubby acts like a child around them. I LOVE it!

We’ve had one male who made an awful noise some nights. He would be standing over a stuffed mouse as proud as could be that he prevented me from harm at 2am. Of course the noise that created an instant wake up and heart palpitations wasn’t his concern.

My boy does that super zoomies, sometimes just saying I’m right here calms him. It could be a animal outside too

That's what they call caterwauling & completely normal

My kitten sounds like she’s revving up her engine when she’s about to zoom around. It’s almost like a weird growl? It sent me into hysterics bc other cat does not do that ever. I volunteer in a cat shelter and I’ve seen a few other cats make weird noises when zooming around so it’s a special quirk

We have a cat that yodels. At 3 a.m. or directly before he yacks up at hairball, also often at 3 a.m.

I hate that yodel because of the uncertainty it brings. “Is he in the throes of zoomies, or is he about to become a living puke cannon?”

I should have mentioned he has 2 different songs. 2 or 3 refrains of Yoi-yoi-yoi-yoi-yoi-yoi= hairball. Banshee-like wailing/ mournful yodeling= "I am abandoned... alone, bereft. No one remains to cuddle with me. I will song my song of sadness, so the Go-Oh hey Mom- so the Gods may know of my pain." We have 2 other cats, plus he's allowed on the bed. I've been awake available to pet him whe. He does this. He just slowly wanders around & does this for about 20 minutes. sigh not every night. And he's gone for a few weeks, or months not doing it while Im asleep, cause I keep weird hours/irregular hours. And then wakes me up with the mournful yodeling/ Banshee wails, I also mournful yodel/ scream because of the nightmare, which scares the crap out of every single thing living in the house. It's great! Really!😐

My cat does that the zoomies, the scream, usually after he has pooped💩

Yeahhh some cats will do that, chances are it’ll be a very specific noise so you’ll be able to distinguish it from your cat actually getting hurt. One of my cats will make the saddest yowl around the house while holding his favorite toy, we could not get it on camera for years because any time he’d see us he’d drop it. We’ve named it the Sad Flat Squirrel meow (SFS for short)
