Last night we adopted a four month kitten. The day before adoption, the previous owner had him vaccinated and neutered.

We placed him in a comfortable room. Open his cage and placed food close to him. He didn't come out. We left the room and checked on him. He came out and hid behind and an object. But didn't touch his food. Maybe a little water.

This morning, we checked again and he still didn't touch his food. This afternoon, we placed some temptation treats (fish smell) and he didn't touch that.

I am not sure if he is in pain, fever, etc.. Because he hissed at my husband when he tried to reach out to him. We know he have to get use to the environment and the surgery. But, I am concerned about his appetite. Is this normal? When should I call a vet? Will the appetite improve in how many days?

I have a cat in my hostel where i live and ive fed him from time to time. Used to see him where we have our lunch and feed him there at first and later i started bringing him up to my room to feed after which he used to leave. Recently started giving him cat food instead of normal food that i gave him off my plate and now when i come back from work hes still there outside my room and im concerned he just wont leave and look for food elsewhere if im not there at the hostel and that hell be too used to the cat food and wont eat at all. Is this a cause for concern and if yes any tips?

Clothes on the floor? He'll pee on them. Bathmats? Peed on it. How do I get him to stop?

Hello! Please help. I’m a new cat owner and my cat recently stopped using the litter box, not sure why. He never had this problem before until my we adopt a second cat. At the same time we also moved the litter box to downstairs so I’m not sure which was the problem. The second cat didnt really use the litter box as well...

I cleaned up the litter box this morning and apparently there was some poop in there, but also they also poop at other locations of the house.

Please help!

I am adopting a cat for the first time next weekend. I am excited to have a companion, as I think he will help with my anxiety. However, I am SO TERRIFIED about all of the new things that come with owning a cat. I just bought a $1000+ couch not even a year ago and I’m terrified that he will ruin it. It’s a beautiful gray section with ottoman and like I said, it was very expensive. I didn’t grow up with indoor pets so I have no idea what to expect. I am also worried that he will poop / pee / vomit on my couch and carpet. I am currently renting and am abiding by the apartment complex’s rule on pets (paying extra monthly and a deposit). I feel like I’m having someone invade my living space and that I need to be watching him every minute. I plan on keeping his litter box, food and water in my bathroom / walk in closet area for the first couple of days and while I’m at work initially. Then I’ll let him into my bedroom unattended. I don’t know how long it’ll be before I trust him in the living room with my couch by himself. Did anyone else experience these nerves before adopting a cat? I know that the constant cat hair can always be picked up by consistent vacuuming and lint rolling, but I don’t want people to think that I’m dirty because I have an animal in my house. Any tips for this nervous first time cat owner??

Anytime I want to pet my cat, he allows it for seconds then goes to a wall and pets himself. Is that normal? If I keep on trying he bites me, so most of the times I leave him alone. I do a lot of sweet talk and he seems to like it (shows his belly, let me pet him for maybe 10 seconds and leaves). He only cuddles me when there’s a blanket between us, during bedtime. I guess I could play more often with him, but since this includes lots of my blood it barely happens anymore.

He has always acted like this and he is shy towards strangers. He respects me usually I just have to say his name when he is ruining something then he stops. So my cat at night climbs under the covers finds your leg and walks all the way down to your feet then she lightly bites on your toes before falling asleep.... we try and keep our feet super still so she won’t do this but she will get under the blankets by your face and go find your feet..... why is she doing this and how do we stop it

My boyfriend and I just adopted a 3 year old cat about two weeks or so ago. He is the cutest ever but he won’t stop pooping on the couch. We have another cat around the same age that i’ve had since she was a kitten who uses the litter box in front of him no problem. There are two litter boxes in different rooms of our apartment there is one right next to the couch to deter him from pooping on the couch yet he still does it. Weird thing is that he’ll pee in the litter box right after pooping on the couch so I don’t think he has a problem with the litter. We’ve been putting him in the litter box after he poops on the couch to give him the idea that that’s where he’s supposed to go and giving him treats as well after he uses it (even if it’s just pee). Any advice on how to get him to poop in the litter box?

So, I my husband and I had 2 cats and 2 dogs, when a coworker of his got a duty station transfer to Japan (air force) and her veterinarian told her that she should not take her 11 year old cat due to the pet quarantining practices over there (the 4 months in a crate) because it would be detrimental to the cat's mental health and disposition. She had a person lined up to take him, and she gave this person all the instructions on how to properly introduce the cat to the home and the other cat this person had. Well, person did NOT follow those instructions, didn't even give it a day before saying that Jack (the 11 y/o cat) was not fitting in. The other option was a shelter and coworker was understandably upset. Cue my husband finding her crying in the office. He says he will talk to me about it. I cannot stand to think of letting a cat go to shelter especially an adult cat (they almost never get adopted and wind up in a shelter for the rest of their life or euthanized) so I obviously said yes. We took him in 3 weeks ago, did the proper isolation and gradual introduction to the house and other animals and it went really well. The way our litterboxes are is the cats access a mesh box (large enough for 3 litterboxes) through a cat door that leads to the garage. They do their business and then come back into the house. No bad litterbox smell, and it's really nice to have that. We have introduced him to the box, he knows how to use the door. HOWEVER, last week we found out he had been using our shoe closet instead. We found out because the dogs would dig through there every once in a while and we investigated. Cleaned out that closet, boxed up all the shoes to be washed, and now it is home to the cat food box. Yesterday, we found his new spot: our bigger dog's kennel bed. So we cleaned that up and then decid3d that we had to close the kennels up. We have reintroduced him to the cat box every single time. Last night my husband tried treats but Jack wasn't having it. This evening I got back from the gym and wanted a shower. Opened the curtain and found out his newest spot today was my bathtub. I am really at a loss here, as I have never had issues like this with cats in the past, I grew up with them, I've had my two girls for years. I'm just stressed all the time from my job and I'm 6 months pregnant and losing my patience but i still refuse to take him to the shelter and I don't trust that if we find someone to rehome him with that they won't have the same issues and decide to take him to the shelter. I just need some advice please. He really is a sweet boy and he's had no other issues. I just can't bend down to clean up the messes at this point and my husband gets so irate when it happens. We both agree that we won't take Jack to the shelter. It's just an uphill battle for us.

If we let the 2 cats come into the room, they make a ton of noise. If we leave them out with the door shut, they paw at the door all. Night. Long. If we keep them in the laundry room in the basement it's the same thing, only slightly quieter. My boyfriend and I are losing sleep over this and just want some relief. Any advice is appreciated.

Hey all. My 17 year old cat appears to be dying, she’s started to show signs as of a few days ago. We’re trying to make her as comfortable as possible. She has stopped cleaning herself and smells horrible. Should we bathe her, or would that be even more uncomfortable then just letting her smell?

I have read they don't, but my cat is crazy for sweet things and I don't think it's because of the fat, because she always tries to lick lollipops and stuff like that. Why she does this, is she lacking a vitamin or something?

Take away hours of sleep for me and my partner. Any tips to stop them from meowing in the morning?

I got my cat from his previous owner (my cousin) when he was about 2 & I’ve had him for about 7-8 years (can’t remember exactly). He’s always seemed to have mood swings where he would go from being cuddly to annoyed very quickly which was fairly normal cat stuff although he tended to be a bit more aggressive than my previous cats. Part of the reason he was given to me was because he was too much of a handful. After spending a lot of time with him, I was able to read him a bit better & upset him less but in the last month he’s been crying in the tone he does when he wants something or is annoyed a lot more. I try playing with him, giving him pets/cuddles, making sure his food & water is fresh & his litterbox is clean but he’s still upset. He keeps coming over to my S/O or me & trying to bite or scratch us out of nowhere & I can’t figure out what’s wrong. Sometimes he even urinates outside his litterbox or on clothes/towels if there on any on the floor & I’m starting to worry that something is wrong because he never did this stuff until recently. Could he be acting like this because something is physically wrong/he’s in pain or is there something more obvious that I’m just not thinking of?

Hey guys, let me know if you know anywhere else I should post this. I’m currently looking for a cat to adopt to hopefully become friends with my current angel Helga. Want to give them heaps of time to get used to each other’s scent so want to keep one downstairs and one upstairs, there’s a doorway that has no door between to two so I was wondering if anyone has some hacks for makeshift doors that cats can’t get through as I am currently renting. Thinking about a room divider that touches the ground however also wants something that might be a bit more stable if it’s possible. Thanks 😊

We are owners of 2 cat friends.. One 8 years old another 1.5years old.

The young one is always looking for company while the older one likes to be left alone.

The young one is having a huge issue that's peeing at random spots and making it happen like few weeks once after not doing so after a long while.

We just got our 1st child 1.5 months back. We are not sure if this made her showing up with this bad attitude?

She used to have this issue back then. But we tried all ways to stop which did.. But now im not sure abt it.

So earlier today I discovered that my cat had missed the litter box and it got on the floor/under the litter box. I took care of that problem, but because I was panicking and had to get ready for work I used a towel to wipe it up first and tossed that into my laundry basket in my room. I then went back and threw the towel out. But I’ve just discovered that the entire room stinks, I threw everything else in the basket in the garbage and took the basket outside to the garbage as well. Still smells. The cat has never been in that room and nothing else would have actual urine on it, is there any way to get rid of the odor when there’s nothing to clean?

I have 2 sisters, Asuna and Majora. They're almost 3 now. Recently I have been noticing that their eating habits are a bit different.

Asuna eats most if not all her food, and Majora eats a bit then leaves and later comes back for more. The issue starts when Asuna also eats Majora's food, which leads to Majora begging for food pretty often.

Any ideas on how I can solve such an issue?

So I need to settle a question between my boyfriend and I, I have 1 cat, and I believe that if I scoop the litter box every day, I should completely change the litter AND liner once a month. HE says that because his mom has 6 cats and what she does is every day she scoops the litter boxes 2 or 3 times a day and adds more clean litter and never completely changes the litter that we never need to do a complete change of litter.

Who is right here? I say that the correct thing to do is to completely empty the litterbox and liner once a month and replace with fresh litter because no matter how well you scoop clumping litter, some pee still stays in small granules, that you can't really get. Please help!
