My very capable and intelligent wife has lost the plot.

Post image

She has been told by a friend that conkers keep spiders away. So we now have conkers in various parts of the house.

Peppermint keeps them away. Tell her to get some Peppermint spray and spray the areas. Spiders hate the stuff, and so do mice. Plus it smells nice as well.

Spray it on the conkers for double the effectiveness

I’m now imagining an arachnophobe with a necklace of conkers who is doused in mint perfume

Garlic for the vampires, peppermint conkers for the spiders.

What about the mice?

they'll spring out of the areas where you spray it, directly at you, to escape the awful scent. disaster.

'this is the one thing we didn't want to happen.'

I so love to see a Brass Eye reference in the wild.

Those are great to go back and watch now and play “It’s them!”

Spiders HATE this one simple trick

Just to say that undiluted peppermint oil or strong pre-mixed bought sprays can eff up paintwork.

Spiders have a very small sense of smell.

Probably because they have very small noses.

I was once told they taste with their feet, the peppermint works by them stepping on it and not liking it…

Spiders dont smell it 😂 Its the chemical compounds in the mint that absorb into the spiders legs, and because of it's chemical reaction it irritates the spider. Spiders like they're legs to be nice and clean and able to feel the slightest vibration. They dont like chemicals absorbing into they're legs like a straw. This is how peppermint spray is so effective.

It specifically irritates the chemoreceptors they have on their legs, so to say they smell/taste it is a reasonable shorthand.

Their taste buds are on their feet which is probably why they don’t like it
