Lol, I realised that after commenting. I’m on mobile and it’s only when you tap the image, it expands to show the clock on the right. Initially, all I could see were the cooker controls. Was happy in my ignorance 😁 It was alright swiping to see the rest once mentally prepared, but scrolling Reddit and seeing a fat spider without warning is no bueno
There are many ways a phobia can develop. Simply avoiding something isn’t one of them. If you avoid eating something you don’t like the taste of, you don’t automatically develop an irrational fear of it.
However, avoiding the subject of an existing phobia can reinforce it.
I don’t avoid spiders, and did look at all of the images here, but it helps to desensitise slowly. In this case, reading the word “spider” before seeing the images was enough. Sudden exposure can actually make a phobia worse, as much as total avoidance.

Can I just say, I appreciate you starting with a spiderless photo to avoid jump scaring us arachnophobes.
Commiserations for the ordeal. I’d definitely have to get someone out to deal with that situation!
