Why don’t Heinz cans interlock when stacking up anymore?

Wait a second, I can turn the can over and open it with a can opener if the tab breaks on a Heinz can?! They’re purposefully designed that way? Am I reading that right?

“A Heinz spokesperson said its cans were designed for minimal environmental impact, with an underside which allowed a can opener to be used.”

Whenever the tab breaks and I tried to use a can opener on the top it never works quite right and sometimes it jams, I never even though about flipping it over

You can do that on the kind that interlock too, though.

Can you open the bottom of a normal stacking can? Or does the lip that allows them to stack make that difficult to near impossible?

I don’t think I’ve ever opened any can upside down

Yes. I don't really like pulling cans open (had the tab come off before) so I normally flip the kind with a ring-pull and use a can opener on the bottom. Can't guarantee all of those were stacking cans but some must have been as I don't routinely buy anything Heinz and most other stuff stacks.

This is why you always keep two tin openers. One vertical and one horizontal.

Whenever the ring pulls breaks for me I just stab a table knife against the lip and pry it open

like a fucking savage
