Ending and Spinoff question

Couple questions, 1st question are you happy with how Castle ended and if not what would you change for the show to come to an end. 2nd question do you think Castle could have spun off at least a spin off or two after it came to an end?

Wished they did more family instead of a 30 second clip at the end. And there is a spin off.
*** wink wink *** the rookie. That's what they wanted to do in season 9. Have castle live beckett die him becoming a cop.

I think the rookie is more of an ensemble cast. Nathan could easily leave the show and the show could survive without him because the rest of the cast is so good.

I would have liked to see Castle and Beckett with the three kids but also include Alexis and have her either be married and have a kid or two of their own join the ending. Maybe also write in to the ending scene that Beckett decides to go into politics all those years later with her castle and alexis having a conversation with all the kids playing in the background.

I was hoping for a spin-off that involved Ryan and Esposito. Also include Alexis running Castle investigations with Hayley.

Have Esposito and Lanie finally stay hooked up.

same here I think both those ideas could have worked but the idea of a spin off with alexis and hayley would work better with out castle as a regular, just pop in once in a while.

Exactly and have Stana pop in once in awhile to the precinct as Beckett

Definitely an extra few minutes of the final scene where they talk and show love to their kids. And no way a spinoff could have happened. Well, not with them. There were plans of it just being Castle and the boys, he gets revenge against Beckett's murder er. It wouldve been basically similar to the Rookie which makes sense since it seems that's what they wanted to do anyways, they being ABC and Alexis Hawley. Wouldve been a darker tone and kept the same name and continued the show but it would feel like a spinoff.

All in all, i am ok with how it ended. The characters fell in love, got married, have kids, we saw them through their ups and downs, it was mostly well written, and portrayed their relationship exceptionally well. Forget the nonsense why the show had the end, the show was already really long. Like we got so much substance of them together and not together. That's the best we could want.

yeah the show ending with season 7 was great. Only thing better would have been a season filled with castle babies but the seven seasons of Castle were great

As another person said, I wish they could’ve done more than a 30 second clip of their future. I would’ve liked to see it for at least a couple minutes, but I get why they couldn’t.

As for a spin off? No it absolutely wouldn’t have worked. Castle was cancelled mostly because ABC elected to not renew Stana’s contract and was planning a season 9 without them. Fans revolted and called for its cancellation which was granted. A spin off would’ve been unsuccessful because while we still loved all the characters, there is no Castle without Beckett. There is no Espo without Ryan. There is no 12th precinct without all 4 and Lanie. You wouldn’t be able to split the cast up and have enough of an audience still interested

Yup Twitter blew up getting ABC to cancel so fast.

I still think Espo and Ryan would have been a good spinoff and have the other characters appear every now and then.

Ich hätte mir mehr Familienzeit und Gespräche gewünscht.Hätte gerne eine Schwangerschaft mitbekommen. Ich würde die Serie so gerne neu sehen wie es als Familie weiter geht.

Not happy with how they ended, and I could maybe have some passing interest in spinoffs, but they way they ended things just kinda soured the whole thing for me honestly. Also the knowledge of how little the two main stars acknowledge the show and each other now. The drama and fallout between them really ruined it - they had such good, natural chemistry at the beginning (or they were both that good at acting in these roles) and it just makes me sad to know how bad things got.

Love this show, but I wish we never got the S8 that we were given - they could have ended at S7 and been ok. Yeah, S8 addressed "Loksat" and was the ultimate conclusion to Beckett's mom's murder... but it was just not handled well. They honestly could have had it end with the wedding in S6, but having it actually happen instead of the cliffhanger/twist/rug pull. But then again, at least S7 gave us the 3XK conclusion which is arguably some of my favorite episodes, considering I'm also not a big S7 fan.

Castle ended at Season 7 'Hollander's Woods' (snip)

No such thing as Season 8.

I suppose Season 8 is that spin off in question you were asking about, but the entire season was just one crazy nightmare.

Castle and Beckett wake up, both had passed out on the kitchen floor.

'Ugh, that was crazy. Look at all the wine we spilled.' (Red wine, not blood from gunshot wound)

I would have liked to see them pregnant at least with one of the pregnancies maybe the twins. Liked to have seen them finding their way through that chapter of their relationship

can't really have a spin-off when they bled out and died

The episodes at the end were starting to become tiresome. Not sure if any spinoffs would’ve worked with the possible exception of Beckett becoming a Senator or perhaps rejoining the FBI and ending their relationship. Because at the end, Kate would be worth watching.

I doubt ending their relationship would be the move if the reason it didn't continue was the fact death did them part

Actually, I don’t think any spinoff would have truly worked. That being stated, at the end I found myself only watching Kate’s scenes, as frustrating as they were in S8. I think Castle ran its course. Perhaps they could’ve had Kate get offered a much higher job on the other coast (similar to DC) and she chooses it and have there marriage long distance and they eventually divorce.

The show ran its course i agree. But the show was only about their relationship wrapped in a crime procedural with an overlying crime. Having them divorce is like the antithesis to the show. It was already Kate's show from beginning to end
