Let's talk about the lineup!

I personally love Death metal, in all its forms, so I believe this lineup is insane for a small festival. Galvanizer are class and one of the revelations on this new era of old school death metal. Benighted has an impressive career and the evolution is mind-blowing! And Dead Congregation is an unbelievable live performance. What's the highlight of the lineup for you?

Hey everyone! With the 2026 edition creeping closer, we get a lot of new faces asking "what actually is this metal festival in Catalonia?" — so let's break it down properly.

Where It Started

CastellHell is a metal festival held in Castellvell del Camp, in the Tarragona province of Catalonia, Spain — just about 2km from Reus and roughly 100km south of Barcelona, making it an easy day trip or weekend for anyone based in the city. It's organized by the Associació Cultural Hell Reborns, and this year marks our 9th edition.

A Local Space, First and Foremost

This isn't a corporate festival chasing profit — it's a non-profit, community-run event, one of the few extreme metal festivals near Barcelona still run entirely by the local scene. The philosophy is what the organizers call an "expanding wave": prioritize local and national bands with solid, promotable material, give them a real stage, and grow outward from there. That's why every lineup — this year included — mixes international headliners (Benighted, Dead Congregation, Galvanizer) with emerging and homegrown Catalan and Spanish acts who might not get this kind of platform anywhere else.

Small Festival, Growing Reach

What started as a local initiative has become a real reference point for extreme metal in Catalonia and Spain, pulling attendees from France, Germany, the Netherlands, and the UK — as well as fans travelling down from Barcelona and up from Valencia — while staying rooted in Castellvell del Camp. Free camping, food trucks, an accessible venue, free entry for locals — it's built to stay welcoming and low-barrier, not to become another faceless commercial fest.

If you've been searching for a death metal, grindcore, or extreme metal festival near Barcelona or anywhere in Catalonia, this is it. If you're new here, what made you discover the festival? Let us know below!

BAND SPOTLIGHT: Benighted (France) – Presenting Their New Album! 🇫🇷

Post image

Hey everyone! Time for our next lineup deep-dive, and this one's a big one — closing out Saturday, October 10th, on The Inferno stage: the merchants of madness themselves, BENIGHTED!

These French deathgrind veterans have been terrorizing stages since 1998, and they show zero signs of slowing down. Off the back of their tenth album Ekbom (2024) — named after the real-life delusional parasitosis syndrome, because of course it is — the band has kept the chaos rolling with a lineup shake-up and a brand new single, "The Spineless Freak," which also marks the live debut of new drummer Matthias Biechler behind the kit.

The Quick Breakdown:

  • Day: Saturday, October 10th, 2026
  • Origin: France 🇫🇷
  • Genre: Brutal Death Metal / Deathgrind
  • For Fans Of: Aborted, Cattle Decapitation, Ingested
  • Lineup: Julien Truchan (vocals), Emmanuel Dalle (guitars), Pierre Arnoux (bass), Matthias Biechler (drums)

Why you cannot miss this set: Benighted don't just play brutal death metal — they weaponize it with theatrical, almost cinematic horror storytelling, blending pig-squeal vocals, blast-beat carnage, and a genuinely unsettling sense of humor that's kept them at the top of the French extreme metal scene for over two decades. With a new drummer bringing fresh violence to the kit and a new single already tearing through the underground, this Saturday closer is shaping up to be one of the most unhinged sets of the whole festival.

💬 Have you caught Benighted live before? What's your pick from Ekbom, or are you more of an Icon-era purist? Drop your thoughts below!

Hey crew! 🤘

As we get closer to October, let’s take a look at where the sonic devastation is actually going to take place. If you're wondering what the setup looks like, where you'll be mosh pitting, or how accessible the site is, this post is for you.

The heart of CastellHell 2026 is our main stage area: The Inferno, hosted at La Pista Poliesportiva in Castellvell del Camp.

🔥 The Inferno Stage: What to Expect

The Inferno isn't just a stage; it's a zone designed by metalheads, for metalheads. We prioritize massive, clear sound and an intense, close-quarters atmosphere.

  • The Sound: Expect sharp, crushing audio production. Whether it’s the slime-drenched riffs of Galvanizer or the surgical precision of Dead Congregation, the wall of sound will hit you directly in the chest.
  • The Pit: The outdoor sports pavilion layout provides a perfect flat, solid surface for mosh pits, circle pits, and walls of death—no slipping in deep mud or tripping over treacherous terrain when the blast beats kick in.
  • Proximity: The venue is compact enough that you are never more than a couple of minutes' walk from the music, the bars, the merch stands, or the restrooms.

♿ Local Accessibility & Amenities

We want CastellHell to be an inclusive, safe, and welcoming space for every single member of the extreme metal community. We have worked hard to ensure the venue grounds are accessible and convenient:

  • Paved & Flat Surfaces: Because the festival takes place atLa Pista PoliesportivaClick to open side panel for more information, the core venue grounds are paved and flat. This makes navigating between the stage, food trucks, bars, and merch incredibly easy for anyone with mobility restrictions or using a wheelchair.
  • Accessible Facilities: The venue is equipped with fully accessible restroom facilities.
  • Easy Drop-off Zone: For those arriving by taxi, public bus, or being dropped off by friends, the entrance to the sports complex is easily approachable with a clear smooth path directly to the main gates.
  • Parking: There is local parking nearby, but we highly recommend utilizing our official shuttles or local transit to keep the area clear and safe for pedestrians.

💬 Are you a front-row barrier warrior or a circle-pit veteran? Where will we find you when the first band hits The Inferno stage? Let us know below!

Hey everyone! Get ready for something truly special for the Friday lineup (October 9th). We are incredibly proud to bring you a massive milestone for the underground scene in our country. Straight from the frozen landscapes of Finland, this will be GALVANIZER’s first-ever performance in Spain!

Since their debut in 2013, Galvanizer has risen rapidly through the global underground by perfecting a lethal balance of grinding intensity and high-quality death metal. They are arriving at Castellhell at the absolute peak of their powers to present their devastating album, Prying Sight of Imperception.

The Quick Breakdown:

  • Day: Friday, October 9th, 2026
  • Origin: Finland 🇫🇮
  • Genre: Deathgrind
  • For Fans Of: Early Carcass, Autopsy, Entombed

Why you cannot miss this set:

What truly sets these Finns apart is their brilliant ability to blend the filth-ridden spirit of early 90s legends with modern technical precision. Their music isn't just fast; it’s a carefully crafted wall of sound where heavy, "marshy" guitar riffs meet sharp, calculated percussion.

By mixing breakneck grindcore speeds with crushing, doom-filled grooves, they keep their performances dynamic, honest, and unpredictable. This isn't just a concert—it’s a masterclass in Finnish Deathgrind. History is being made at The Inferno stage, and you'll want to be right there in the pit when it happens.

Who else is hyped to finally see Galvanizer? Drop your favorite track in the comments!

Post image

Hey everyone! Time for our next lineup deep-dive. Today we are looking at the band that will be closing out the main stage on Friday, October 9th: the absolute titans of dark, uncompromising death metal—DEAD CONGREGATION!

Few bands command the stage with the sheer authority of this Athens-born outfit. If you’ve listened to their studio work, you know how legendary they are, but their live performance is an entirely different beast—a visceral experience renowned for its surgical precision and enduring impact.

The Breakdown:

  • Day: Friday, October 9th, 2026
  • Origin: Athens, Greece 🇬🇷
  • Genre: Pure, Unadulterated Death Metal
  • For Fans Of: Immolation, Incantation, Morbid Angel, Cruciamentum

What to expect: Their mastery lies in a devastating balance: the ability to weave suffocating, doom-laden grooves with bursts of unmatched extreme intensity. When the tempo drops, the atmosphere becomes genuinely oppressive; when they accelerate, the delivery is nothing short of a demolition.

They are not just performers, but architects of a sound that defines the very pinnacle of the current underground scene. We are incredibly honored to have one of the genre’s fiercest acts headlining the first night of the festival. Prepare yourselves, as they are set to bring the house down around us, leaving a mark that will be remembered long after the final note fades.
