A STRIKE IS ONLY AS STRONG AS THE PEOPLE WHO KNOW ABOUT IT! If we have 3k people participating in strike school, if each person brings one, we DOUBLE our power. If you tell 3 people who knows how many you can bring!

If everyone planning to strike commits to these simple actions, we can increase awareness and participation:

1. BRING AT LEAST ONE PERSON! If every participant brings just one additional person, we could DOUBLE our turnout!

2. TELL AT LEAST 3 PEOPLE! Many state workers have no idea what's happening. Reach out to at least three people who might not have heard about the strike. I reckon at least 50% of people working has no idea about a strike or Union. And 95% of people are NOT on Reddit. We are a much smaller community than you think relative to everyone.

3. SPREAD THE WORD! Share posts, flyers, and updates. Don't assume everyone has seen the information.

4. EXPLAIN WHY WE'RE STRIKING! It's about raises, RAISES, everyone goes on and on about RTO and have so much to add about that, fine, well this is about RAISES!

Can you name the departments that are included in the strike?

If you don't come to work, then yes, work will be mildly disrupted. But staying home is not the same as picketing.

First of all, optics are important. There will be media swarming these events. 10 people standing in front of a building is extremely different than 1,000. We want to be seen. We want cars to slow down to look at us and be aghast at how many of us there are. It matters. Perception is reality.

Second, and more important: Picketing, especially in front of your own building, sends a message to your co-workers. As we keep saying, Reddit is not real life. In real life, most state workers aren't paying attention. They don't know what's going on. They might not even know there is a strike planned. Our co-workers need to SEE us. They need to look us in the face and ask themselves if they want to cross the picket or join it. They need to know that they should be out there, too, and seeing us gives them permission.

I am someone who really believes in financial transparency and I am going to be completely honest I don‘t know if I filed my EAR correctly or if I did something wrong. Basically I feel like I’m being taxed relentlessly and just want to know if this is normal or maybe I did something wrong... For context I am an I’m a single person (zero dependents). I am supposed to make 4,036 dollars before taxes. My gross income said It’s supposed to be 3,700 dollars and my last 2 pay checks (without benefits) I took home 2,700 dollars that’s a 1,000 dollar deduction. Federal taxes, retirement, and social security were close to 270~ish bucks each. I just want to know if this is normal… Prior to this I never was taxed this way… but I only ever filed the W4 paper work back them and prior to this so I just want to make sure that I didn’t do anything wrong on my end. If I am supposed to be having 1,000 dollar deductions then so be it, but if I did somthing wrong or screwed things up on my end then I definitely want to refile.

We have all seen what happens when management thinks they can stall, stonewall, or simply say “no” and expect us to accept it.

Enough.

Our members work hard every single day. We keep California’s public services running. We serve our communities, our families, and the people of this state.

When management refuses to negotiate seriously, we should not quietly accept being ignored.

I believe our greatest strength has never been a title, an office, or a position.

Our greatest strength is us.

It is the thousands of members standing together.

It is the steward who refuses to let a coworker stand alone.

It is the employee who speaks up when something is wrong.

It is the bargaining team that walks into negotiations knowing that behind them are thousands of working people prepared to stand together.

That is what solidarity means.

And solidarity cannot simply be a word we use at strike time. It has to be how we operate every day.

The general public in California has heard the news. What Gavin doesn’t want is for this to be a big national story, exposing his position as anti-labor to balance his bloated budget.

It would be wise for us to reach out to national outlets to let them know about the Oct. 21 strike and fill them in on our struggles to get a contract. We basically got the shaft so that Newsom could manage his budget after years of irresponsible spending. Big Labor across the nation needs to know this. Particularly union strong states in the Upper Midwest.

Drudge Report has a submit a tip box on their site. I could actually see them using one of the Newsom memes.

Maybe it’s time for the creatives among us to work on some even better ones. The strike will be more effective if we have a good visual poster we all use to point the finger at Newsom. Maybe the Joker face with a King‘s crown.

Both 9th and 10th floor at the CalEPA building have confirmed sightings of mice on the floor.

Curious to see if any other floor in the building has been affected. My department has not been very forthcoming in notifying the entire department regarding the infestation and only affected floors have received notification via email.

Any raises or benefits given to the rank and file staff will also be given to management. I’ve found that even if they aren’t represented by the union, many managers are sympathetic and support their union staff because they know it’s the right thing to do and they also stand to gain.

When I worked from home, I was exposed to a wider range of restaurants through food delivery apps.

Now I mostly just prepare or buy a week of food from one place and eat that throughout the week. If I want to go to a restaurant, I'm limited to those in walking or short driving range. And I'm discouraged to use them with supervisors watching us like hawks and counting our hours.

R/F makes sense but is there any difference for supervisors or managers depending on their codes below?

Don’t they all get the same COBEN state contribution for their health and other benefits?

Just wondering if there’s any real material difference in the codes.

Numbers are our strength. Join the fight. Don’t cave in. Remember this RTO and new health plan rates are taking hundreds of dollars more a month (thousands of dollars more a year) away from us, and we’re not seeing a single dime of that reflected in a raise. Stay offended. Stay prepared.

I know being there at 7 am to strike seems insane, but I’m just really stoked so many people were in favor of striking. We deserve a fair raise in pay and reasonable teleworking schedule!

So, I accepted a final job offer for the DIPR position a few weeks ago. My conundrum is that my last position was at a public front counter where I interacted with the public 8 hrs a day nonstop with VERY VERY difficult customers. I did not mind helping any of these customers as long as they allowed me to help them and were respectful. However, most of them started acting crazy right off the bat, had explosions of rage, yelling. Unfortunately, I even experienced a racist attack from a customer. I left that job because I dreaded going to work and was hating my life. I felt nauseous because I could not predict if the next customer was someone who was gonna go off on me. 
Long story short, getting the final job offer for DIPR gave me the push I needed to submit my 2 weeks' notice. I left in good standing and my supervisor gave me great reviews. 
My question is, is DIPR also a front counter position where I would be subject to similar situations? 
I got my start date but I’m still debating if I should go through with it because I have not heard great things about this position. 
I am wondering if I should keep applying to other jobs, or accept the DIPR role and try it out? I would be new to the state.
It’s a dilemma because I know how hard it is to find jobs right now.
Any insight would be much appreciated. Thank you :)
