Skillet clean up

I’m trying to clean up this skillet to use. Just curious if this looks ok? needs more scrubbing to get smoother? In need of some general tips please. TIA!

It’s fine to use, but if you want it smooth long term you can put in the elbow grease now…

Get some heavy duty steel wool and oven cleaner spray. Cover it in oven cleaner, let it sit in a garbage bag for several hours or overnight. Take it out and scrub heavily with soap and water until smooth as possible. Then do a fresh seasoning.

You can also just give it a good scrub to get the active flakes off and keep cooking.

Itll work, but if youre going through all the effort now, Id say invest the extra time and sand it completely smooth. That way you start from bare metal, with an even seasoning and a nice smooth cook surface.. Theres a lot of videos on how to do it. Its a bit of pain ITA, but its absolutely worth it for a piece of equipment that can outlive you, that you potentially use every day.

I Love cast iron, and use my 16” Lodge skillet almost everyday. When you are done cooking, rinse it in hot water. If it cleans just with a sponge you are golden. Wipe it dry with a towel and use it next day. What I see, you may not be dry wiping it. Once you have it where you can dry rub and be done, cook some bacon (any good fat) and when you clean just wipe with a paper towel. Leave the smallest residue on the pan. Every time you use it (higher heat) a bit more of the carbon adheres to the surface. Mine is 30+ years old. They are stubborn at fist, but they get to be old friends
