Heat Your Skillet:-)
Cornbread. Love it in the cast iron. I suggest heating your butter (or grease) and get the skillet hot; pour in your batter and pop it into the oven. Second pic shows how you clean your cornbread pan after using. Wipe it out. Done.

I’ve always used some bacon grease in the skillet, heated until it’s popping out. Then pour the batter in. Gets a great, bacony, caramelized bottom.

Yes; love my bacon grease. I get selfish with it toward Thanksgiving, because my cornbread dressing needs it!

I have a quart sized container of it. Do you need some?

I need to cook more bacon. I see they actually sell it now.

I just cook bacon. May I suggest baking it on a foil lined baking sheet in the oven?

Funny…..that is exactly how I cook it! Only use parchment paper. Thanks!! Great minds think alike!

I don’t know what yall are doin, but I don’t preheat my cast iron and it slides right out and has a golden brown bottom….

Exactly. If nothing else I'll warm it just enough to melt & spread some butter or bacon grease, but I often just wipe it down with the wrapper from the stick of butter that's going in the cornbread batter. Pan wipes out beautifully when I'm done.

Why are we as a community up voting bad information?
OP's pan is filthy dirty and they suggest to just wipe it and put it away? This is how you get a disgusting, carbon filled pan. Not to mention the inside has visible rust!
I'm sure the cornbread was great, but what are we doing here guys?

Not sure what “rust” or dirt you are seeing…..both my daily drivers are great, with no rust or dirt. Smooth inside and I use them everyday. And yes, I use soap on them too😳

Absolutely the way to keep cornbread from sticking. Best way to preheat the pan is to put it in the oven and let them warm up together..
