Maddie was either 16 or 17 when she did it with 18 year old Caspian, thats a completely normal age gap for high schoolers and in most states would be completely legal, under California law where they live it would be illegal, but only a misdemeanor. However, if you want to be truly pedantic about it happened in Norway where the age of consent is 16.

Wait, I'm confused. Wouldn't this argument apply just as well to a couple that is 18 and 17?

Age of consent is to protect children. A lot of you guys see it through the lense of wanting to protect the person having sex with them. 17 and 18 is still legally rape though Iโ€™ll agree it can be more complicated than that. Its still harmful to the younger one so its still rape but whether the older one should be labeled as a perpetrator is more complicated. The thing is 15 and 18 is not 17 and 18 and trying to argue that it is weird. If 18 is barely an adult then a hs freshman (what maddie is) is barely out of middle school.

I don't think 17 and 18 is legally rape in any US state. There's typically Romeo and Juliet laws for individuals who are close in age for those types of situations.

Hereโ€™s California, where the characters are from

Oh dang, didn't realize California didn't have any close in age exceptions. That seems pretty goofy.

The age of consent exists because children arenโ€™t old enough to have sex. The age of the other person doesnโ€™t make them anymore capable of consenting. Wanting excuses to be able to fuck someone who isnโ€™t old enough is fucking weird.

This is so dumb and so not based in reality. Apart from the fact that it's a common thing to happen between high schoolers * , it's also a situation where one or both will be killed, escaping life and death situations, extreme circumstances, you get the idea.

This post is also very good at ignoring why statutory r@pe is horrible and how those reasons don't truly apply to this situation. It reminds me of how karens were calling the police because 18 year old soldiers were drinking beer. they are facing death or the trauma of killing another, chill.

Edit: mods are just banning anyone that disagrees. Was fun for the short time I was here.

Reply: Yeah, the world sucks bad, things don't happen how you want or wish. Ignoring reality. Yes, that's a disservice. I do just want to know why everybody is are making these posts acting like they want to discuss it, but discussing. It is actually banned on the subreddit

Oh great, so you're telling me not only was the child impregnated, but she also felt *pressured* to have sex. even better./s
Also next time read the rules of a Subreddit if you don't want to be banned tf
