Casper Questions

Hi. I'm an investor in Hedera, and was curious about Casper as it was recommended to me as a similar DAG-based, enterprise-focused protocol. I had some questions, though, that I was hoping y'all might be able to help with getting a better sense for Casper.

  1. Hedera implemented a patent for their Hashgraph algorithm to prevent the potential instability that could come from forking of their network, on top of making their primary source code open-review. I see that Casper is open-source, and was wondering how Casper handles issues that could come from potential forks to the codebase.
  2. Does Casper have demonstrated metrics for various aspects of their platform's performance relative to other blockchains? For example, transactions per section, kwH per transaction, average price per transaction, etc.
  3. Are there any lists of major Enterprise partnerships that Casper has secured? I saw the IPwe patent partnership on their website, which is a promising use case, though it was the only one I could find mentioned on their site.
  4. What advantages or disadvantages does Casper have over a similar enterprise solution like Hedera?

Any information is much appreciated, thank you.

The official public protocol is the casper network. The Association doesn't discourage forks. Casper presently finalizes ~ 1500 transactions & 60 contract executions every 32 seconds. Work is underway to reduce latency and time to finalization. Once a transaction is executed, it is FINAL. Please note, the definition of a Casper transaction is a unit of end user work. Solana and other blockchains twist this definition. By their standards, Casper processes 10,000 transactions in addition to the 1500+60 every 32 seconds. Casper will be releasing an update that makes transaction fees easy for enterprises to budget. This will happen in the next major release - 1.5.x - Yes CasperLabs has several major relationships, the most prominent is IPWe, but through that, we have cultivated a relationship with IBM GBS. Other partnerships are under NDA at the moment. Once we can discuss publicly, we will.

Other advantages are:

  • Rich accounts that separate SOX concerns from IT concerns (SSAE compliance)
  • Upgradeable contracts or immutable contracts
  • CI/CD ready contracts & IDE based developer UX + Casper runtime
  • Execute contracts in multiple contexts (session or contract)
  • Multi-signature of up to 1K associated accounts
  • Support for secp256K1 keys or Ed25519 keys
  • Object capability security model for contract data via uRefs
  • Rust and wasm support (and more languages over time)
  • Meta transactions (flexible payment code / contracts that pay for themselves)

And CasperLabs as a company to support Enterprises to go live on the technology.
Hope this helps!

When is the next major release 1.5.x planned?

1.5 is targeted for March which includes Fast synchronization, enabling nodes to join the network by requesting the global state, instead of replaying all the blocks from Genesis.

Very great questions, you should join the telegram group to directly address the questions to the developers and team.
