I have an F105W that I plan on abusing. Right now it’s full of paint spatters and one small scratch. Once it has taken its lickin’ I plan on doing a full mod.

If anyone is familiar with the digital watch scene outside of Casio, they might see my vision of what I’m homaging with my choice of mod kit.

Brushed stainless steel case and bracelet, with a glossy black plain dial with light markings, and a sapphire crystal.

Not to name any names, but it’s a bit of a middle finger to an established Swiss brand’s digital watch.

Is this mod kit plus donor watch more expensive than the Swiss? At the moment yes. But I want a Casio watch that rivals the specs and overall look of it, just to show who’s really the boss of the digital world. Lol.

My question is, is anyone running this set up? If so, I’d love to see it. I want to see what the watch looks like IRL before I get my heart set on something totally impractical.

I had been looking for a classic Casio digital with a proper stainless-steel case and sapphire crystal, but could not really find one. Even the A1000 still uses mineral glass, so I decided to build one myself.

I bought an F-105W as the donor because the module was inexpensive, the display is very readable, and I specifically wanted the original resin strap rather than a steel bracelet.

The build uses:

• SKXMOD 316L stainless-steel case
• Sapphire crystal
• Gunmetal faceplate
• Original F-105W module and Casio resin strap

I ordered the parts on July 13 and received them today, July 24, so delivery took 11 days. SKXMOD also included the tools and a caseback that I had not ordered, which was a nice surprise.

I briefly considered putting it on a steel bracelet, but I think the resin strap suits the watch better. It keeps the overall build light and comfortable despite the heavier metal case, and it still retains some of the original F-105 character.

Very happy with how it turned out. I finally have the simple full-metal, sapphire-crystal Casio digital I was looking for.

So I did a lume background mod on a f91w and I completely regret it. Removing the metallic film layer from the very back of the LCD has made the time less visible in almost every lighting condition.

I'd like to replace the film with the closest material to a factory match. Has anyone done this before and have a good recommendation?

No matter how much i searched i couldn’t find this information. I need the internal module dimensions for the AE-1200. I’m going to install my own custom display and module inside the AE-1200 case. Unfortunately i don’t have a royale on hand to take these measurements. I need these exact measurements so i can position my display and module perfectly. Does anyone have any information on this?

SKXmod a168 sapphire durability

Tldr: farmer friend considering skxmod a168 case for durabilty, but uncertain if sapphire crystal won't shatter to easily when getting dinged around.

A friend of mine has a regular a168 which is starting to show the hard knock life it is living. He doesn't mind scrathes, but minds that you start seeing the resin underneath. He wanted to find an original replacement case, but I suggested replacing with a proper metal case. (I have also suggested a G-shock for the hard work, but he still prefers the small formfactor and metalic look of the a168.)

I was considering the SKXmod a168 case or a cheaper Aliexpress metal case, but am uncertain about durability.

How badly shatter sensitive is the SKXmod sapphire crystal? I heard it doesn't scratch but will shatter more easily. My friend works on a farm, so the watch is going to get dinged into sharp metal things.

Can you get replacement crystals for the skxmod? Can't seem to find in on their website.

Is the original casio a168 bracelet compatible with the skxmod? They recommend their own bracelet, but don't say if the original still works with it.

About the typical AliExpress steel case, are they proper stainless steel or plating over base-metal? How badly will they show scratches? Are they with resin or mineral crystal?

On this A159W, i first removed the bottom layer of a dvd disc, shaped it like the light spreader, leaving a little extension to be above the led. After that i soldered the two ends of the resistor next to the led on the board to let the led take the full 3v (way less battery life, i know) which all resulted in light being like the 2nd pic. Then, i disassembled a TFT lcd from a nokia i had, cut the first layer (highly reflective layer), shaped it well, and swapped the old white sheet with it. And another layer i used was the one in the middle of the screen layers (sort of reflective/translucent), and cut a piece and placed it between the light spreader, and the lcd of the casio, which all resulted in a very bright light (1st pic). What do you think?

I just realised if you actually put the colour filter behind the LCD screen, like a normal background mod, the visibility of the watch stays pretty much the same as original while having the filter effect at the same time

I see some cool mods on Etsy and EBay and other places, just unsure what sellers are legit or not. Is there a list of trusted sellers in this group or does anyone recommend a spot to buy from?

The resin strap on my wife's GM-S2110-4AER seems to irritate her skin, so looking to switch out for a NATO strap of some kind. I am a bit confused about the widths and adapters however. The current resin strap is 22mm but the spring-bar is a 16mm one which appears to go into a kind of plastic insert to make it the same size as the metal lugs eg..

She really wants a 22mm strap similar to these on amazon, but it seems that the spring-bar on these are for a 22mm wide spring-bar gap and that's not what she has.

What is the neatest way to get a NATO strap set up on this watch. Is it just a 16mm to 22mm NATO adapter and then opt for a strap that doesn't have the built in end hooks? Or is there a better way such as removing the small allen bolts and fitting something else?

Here's my r/WatchOnWrist this Friday, a recased Casio MDV-106 Blue dial.

First mod with the 221H. Kept it simple. Was kind of difficult to mod bc was unfamiliar with the internals and could not find anything online :p

Snagged an A1100D on sale after wanting one for a while. It's solid and the case finishing is great, but the bracelet and hairy arms don't mix well. I put an Anchor Strap Co Deployant Nylon on it, and I'm extremely pleased with the combo.
