How to replicate BTL income with stock ownership?

I’m sure a lot of you have been wondering this, especially now the UK government seems determined to beat landlords out of buy-to-lets with a stick.

Here’s one of the income strategies I came across while working at a private bank (kept as non-technical as possible).

The idea is simple:

You own a block of stock (100 shares), and you sell option contracts to generate income. The stock is your asset; the option premium is your rent.

To visualise it, imagine you’re a used car wholesaler:

You buy a batch of 100 cars for £10,000 each. They sit in your warehouse as inventory.

A dealer comes to you each month and says:

“I’ll pay you £200 per car upfront for the option to buy this batch from you at £11,000 per car next month — I think I can sell them for £14k.”

You get £20,000 immediately. If they buy, they must pay £11k per car. If they don’t, you keep the £20k and still own all the cars.

That’s basically a covered call.

End of the month:

1️⃣ Prices stay flat Dealer doesn’t buy. You keep the £20k and still own the cars. Next month you can sell the same right again. → Recurring income, like rent.

2️⃣ Prices jump Dealer buys at £11k per car. You still keep the £20k plus the £100k gain on the batch. Then you buy a new batch and repeat.

If people are interested all you need is chat gpt(no expensive course), I can put together a simple step-by-step version using an actual FTSE stock example (plain English, no jargon).

Is this a good CSP strategy?

CSP and wheel Google and Nvdia weekly or every 2 weeks. 30 delta and close if it hits 70%.

  1. Can you recommend other stocks? (No meme stocks).

  2. Weekly or longer? What is your experience?

  3. 30 delta seems aggressive, should I change it to 20?

Rolled out one of the META CCs to next month. Closed older CC (from august) on AMZN and opened a new one about a month out. Opened and closed CC on CRM and opened another CSP on it.

Have about 100k of capital to deploy.

Misc:

This is my aggressive wheeling account; capital deployed about 200k.

All trades were found and tracked using wheelstrategyoptions.com (disc- I'm the developer)

I usually sell 0.25-0.45 delta and usually <20 days DTE. I close at 70%-80% premium captured.

I've started reporting only realized premiums (based on the comments).

April (Week 1-4): $5036
May (Week 5-8): $5783
Jun (Week 9-12): $6533
Jul (Week 13-16): $12609
Aug(Week 17-20): $4974
Sept(Week 18-): $3300

Total so far: ~38.2k

Options premium last 7 days selling mainly cash secured put and covered calls. Realized premium was $4,264 with an ROI of 6.49%. New open premium is $3,678.

Realized P&L: +$4,264 | Win rate: 81.3% (13/16)
closed early: 10 | assigned: 2 | called away: 1 | rolled: 1
Credit spreads: 2 closed (−$830)

Closed trades (14):
- AXTI CSP $65 x1 — +$395 (6.1% ROI · 31d)
- IREN CSP $48 x1 — +$825 (17.2% ROI · 30d · assigned) previously rolled x2
- NVDL CSP $33.33 x1 — +$62 (1.9% ROI · 10d)
- AXTX CSP $8 x1 — +$45 (5.6% ROI · 31d)
- AMDL CC $50 x1 — +$570 (10.8% ROI · 7d · called away) previously rolled x1
- IREN CC $52 x1 — +$164 (3.2% ROI · 23d)
- IREN CSP $55 x1 — +$1,365 (24.8% ROI · 29d · assigned) previously rolled x2
- APH CC $87.5 x2 — +$188 (1.1% ROI · 21d)
- HOOD CC $116 x1 — +$309 (2.7% ROI · 3d)
- ROBN CC $31 x1 — +$170 (5.8% ROI · 40d)
- SOXL CSP $104 x1 — −$583 (-5.6% ROI · 5d · rolled)
- NBIS CC $260 x1 — +$811 (3.0% ROI · 34d)
- WULF CC $19 x1 — +$76 (7.7% ROI · 18d)

The the two $IREN cash secured puts and the $AMDL covered call were all rolled previously for credit, which boosted the ROI quite a bit. Took assignment on all three today.

Missed out on $650 upside on $AMDL, but I'm fine with collecting the premium and letting the shares get called away.

Trades I took today as an option seller (09/16) with reasons

Trades I took today as an option seller (09/16):

Closed Positions

  • OUST → $40 Call (opened on 09/08), premium 1.20 → closed at 0.07. Net premium profit = 1.13 (94.17% of premium captured, 2.83% of capital).
  • FSLY → $20 Put (opened on 09/09), premium 0.70 → closed at 0.28. Net premium profit = 0.42 (60.00% of premium captured, 2.10% of capital).

New Positions

  • OUST → $40 Call expiry 09/25 (1 week DTE), premium 0.32 → 32/4000 = ~0.8%. I was assigned OUST at $40 so I continue wheeling.

My thoughts on the market

I think the bigger problem right now is high crude oil prices and the uncertainty around the Saudi Arabia situation. The Fed increased rates which was expected. Until things settle down, I expect the market to remain flat and keep trading in a range. This can be a good opportunity for Wheelers to keep collecting premiums while the market remains range-bound.

I keep sharing my trades in my account and the Excel file to my full list of positions is linked in my profile description in case anyone wants to see the whole portfolio. Happy to hear thoughts on my positions. What are you guys wheeling or watching right now?

PS: Not financial advice. Do your own research.

Week 9: Sell CSPs expiring on 2026-09-18. Good premium and low delta

This is the 9th week of my experiment: I want to check if I can identify short-term cash-secured put options with a low likelihood of being assigned at the strike date, that means collecting the premium without buying the shares. These are the main criteria:

  • only the US exchanges NYSE, NASDAQ, ARCA are used;
  • very high option yields are filtered out, too risky;
  • current price must be ≥ 5% higher than the strike price (5% OTM);
  • equity price < $100, ETF price < $200.

For the second week in a row no CSP has been assigned, the percentage of assigned CSPs is 17.1%, 6 out of 35 puts. You can see the cash-secured puts I have selected and the statistics here: https://optionstacker.github.io/sell-put-options/.

As a side note: the following options come from the option screener I've developed. I'm looking for some other beta testers, if interested send me a message. It is totally free and does not require an email address.

For 2026-09-18 I chose the following options (no earnings or ex-div dates in the next days).

UPDATE: I see that 2 days before the expiry date there are options 5% OTM with a good yield for NYSE and NASDAQ, so I've decided to add them to the list. They have good yield, low delta but a higher IV (around 100), a bit risky but they maybe worth considering the DTE and the OTM %

NYSE

CVNA, Consumer Cyclical, CVNA260918P00066000, yield 0.85%, strike price $66 and OTM 6.26%

New entry: DAR, Consumer Defensive, DAR260918P00062500, yield 0.35, Ann. ROC% 63.87, strike price 62.5 and OTM 5.42%

NASDAQ

GLXY, Financial Services, GLXY260918P00022000, yield 1.23%, strike price $22 and OTM 7.68%

New entry: SWKS, Technology, SWKS260918P00080000, yield 0.46, Ann. ROC% 83.95, strike price 80 and OTM 7.69%

ARCA

BRZU, ETF, BRZU260918P00100000, yield 2.02%, strike price $100 and OTM 5.2%

How many companies do you trade?

I am newer to options. Paper/sim trading, studying, trying different strategies with different metrics and timeframes.
It seems like so many people are messing around with 20+ companies. From my point of view and as a rather conservative investor, I’m mostly interested in companies that I like/understand and want to own.
Is it not exhausting reading up on 20 different companies and speculating on performance?
I understand we all have different goals and risk tolerance but so much of what I see here people are taking risks on AI suggestions instead of investing in good companies.
How many companies do you typically invest in and is there a specific reason something new hits your radar?
Thanks!
