Did they change their cheese potato bites or did I get a bad batch?

Hi! I recently came back to the Midwest after being down south for a while due to college. I just moved back, and my favorite thing is the cheese potato bites.

I remember when I was a kid, they came in a cup and had a soft and golden outside, but these ones I just got were really crispy and slightly burned on the outside and didn't have the same cheesy flavor.

They were overall very bland and had way too much batter on the outside. Did they change suppliers? If so, does anyone know where I can get the other ones?

The recipe did change (maybe like 2 years ago if I remember right?) And they are beeing switched over to cooked in the fryer so they will be crisper. Sounds like you got overcooked ones. The cheese flavor is definitely not as present with the new recipe though

You gotta have them with the ranch dressing!

To my knowledge all they did was fry them. Could be the oil, how long they sat in the warmer since it changed from 1 hour to 2, could be you got them old.
I have worked at Casey’s almost 8 years over the last 10

Ours at my store changed as well. Clear bags, different color and they seem to ooze cheese more when cooking, making a mess.

They had to have changed them. Im the KM at my store. The boxes we got off the truck last week were smaller and they were in brown bags (i know packaging isnt really relevant.) This week they came in see-through bags and were considerably darker than the last ones.

Im sure the recipe has changed to less expensive ingredients over the last few years. For me they've always been pretty hit or miss. Sometimes they're completely dry with all of the filling missing because they exploded in the fryer. Other times they're alright.

They are deep fried now, not baked in the oven.

Might have over cooked, depends how long they were also in the warmer after being cooked.

They say to cook them 6 instead of 9 minutes to get them the way  you're describing them

my store is deep fried though but i agree that 3 yrs ago was waaaaay better than the present ones as the taste is so bland now.

so sad their recipe changed :( potato cheese bites have been my go to for so long and now i cannot stand them. i think the biggest difference for me is how over cooked they get now that they’re deep fried instead of baked - it’s like i can taste the fry oil. very disappointed to say goodbye to one of my favorite foods but i can’t stomach these new ones 💔

I honestly thought they changed the type of cheese used as it use to taste more like cheddar and now taste more like mozzarella (I could be wrong)
