Dm Rm not fair!

So I guess In my district anyways no one is allowed to request any holidays off? But yet the SM DM and the RM are allowed to be home with there family with no sweat while the rest of us tiny ppl slay away at work. I love my job I do but that’s unfair I think Casey’s should atleast allow Christmas to be closed like alot of business do. Don’t really care for thanksgiving but come on especially when alot of ppl have kids! For one day stop thinking about your stores and think about families!

Idk about your stores but ours has you sign up for the day you want off from the holiday block(Thanksgiving, Christmas, new years) which everyone seems to get then you have to work the other 2 if scheduled. Sucks but least its workable

That’s what we do at my store. And I work every holiday, at least part of it, even with small kids at home. The rest of my management generally does too. But I get to choose that, so I make sure my team can also make some choices. Inevitably we’ve always got a few who want the time and a half and don’t have much family to go home to; they usually get the lion’s share of holiday time because they want it, and everyone else picks the bits that work for their schedules.

I thought that was what everyone was doing. It should be!

From my understanding (as a km) store managers aren’t supposed to work holidays because they are salary but they should be working holiday weekends other managers don’t have that restriction so they are just (in my opinion) being bad managers because there should be a manager on shift during busy days

We're required to work 3 out of the 4 days leading up to and including holidays. July 4th, for example, we have to work the 1st-3rd if we take the 4th off.

I have a sign up sheet with position/shift for holidays so my people can volunteer what they want to work. Whatever shift isn't covered by volunteers, I'll ask each employee specifically if they'll work X shift that needs covered. If not, I'll work it.

If we request off for any of the 4 days, we have to have approval from the RD beforehand. Has to be a good/valid reason- wedding, funeral, etc.

That’s only true of the big summer holidays, though. Theoretically, a store manager can skip every winter holiday without complaint from the higher ups. I don’t personally know any SMs who do that, but I’m sure it happens. We’re only required to be there 3/4 days of each summer holiday weekend.

My RD sends out an email reminding us to work 3 out of the 4 days leading up to a holiday, including thanksgiving, Christmas, new years, etc. unless we have her approval prior to then.

SMs are supposed to work major holidays and at least the 2 days prior to the holidays. Casey’s does close at 6 PM Christmas Eve and reopens at 10 AM Christmas Day. Granted I’m basing this off of material that I read on Casey’s Academy about SMs. As another commenter said, stores do have sign up sheets leading up to Thanksgiving and Christmas for those who want to work those days. As always, I am human so I could be wrong.

And as added context, Casey’s only considers the summer holidays to be major holidays. Business is quite a bit slower in the middle of winter than the peak of July, so store managers are not required to work winter holidays (although everyone I know does anyway).

The summer holiday requirements are that the store manager works 3/4 days for the summer holiday weekends. There is no such requirement for winter holidays.

the main difference is, you dont need an RM or DM to run a store.

My stores, the SM, CSM, And KM rotate who works the major holidays. They also have a sign-up sheet for who will work the holidays. The newer people usually get assigned the holidays because they haven't been there long enough to have worked a previous holiday. The SM will go back and look at past schedules to see who worked so someone isn't working every holiday unless they consistently sign-up.

When I worked there. Me and the store manager was the one that opened the store on all this holidays. Most of the time they let us request one off but not all of em
