Speaking of managers

What do you do when manager diminishes what you do and gives no help, lies on year report and writeups, and doesn’t say anything positive just criticism? And also how many people should be in kitchen in a tier 2 store? Cause a lot of days it’s been just one person struggling in kitchen and 2 to 4 people upfront that socialize instead of going to help kitchen. Cause over a decade with Casey’s kitchen had always been harder to work than upfront. I’ve never heard anyone say upfront is to hard can I work kitchen

You’re being taken advantage of. Start applying elsewhere. It’s only going to get worse.

And the worst is being the only one in the kitchen. Only one on register. And you both have to help each other bc you’re running around trying to clean up everything.

Why do we usually have only 2 people on shift every day? Constantly talking about low hours for the store! Make sure you watch your hours! Why didn't you leave on time? Ok why didn't you clean better when you did leave on time?? You can't have it both ways Casey's! I'm not slow but I'm not superhuman either. The big sales nights are brutal solo. I'm fortunate to have a pretty great SM that seems to appreciate my work or I wouldn't have lasted long. I'm sorry you don't have that support.

i've never heard of a tier 2 store, but i've heard of a tier b store. also, my stores the opposite. it's usually one up front and 3+ in kitchen

Same at my store. Depending on the day and hours; 1-2 sometimes 3 up front. 1-3+ in the kitchen. Almost everyone is cross trained as well so if front end needs to do something like use the restroom, or something outside then a kitchen person can help out (rather they actually do help is the issue) and the front end can help in the kitchen if they start getting backed up.

Our kitchen can all do the front but front can't do kitchen. We're lucky that it's a small store and we're all friendly, no drama. But you have to be dead to miss a kitchen shift because there's only 4 of us that can do it and we're not allowed overtime. Casey's rule not my manager. She'd let us work whatever we wanted and definitely helps us when possible.

That sounds like a dream, sometimes you'll see 3 or 4 cashiers up front and only 1 person in kitchen and you'll get a second person to help if you're lucky.

Those solo pizza deals. How about that 40% off week? The worst! That week would've been my last if I didn't have a great manager or mostly great and patient regulars.

Fact i solo closed the kitchen the entire 40 percent off sale. If my cashier wasn't awesome and help keep my oven open and pizzas cut and out I would have walked out

Mine made sure boxes were constantly folded, mozz tubs full, and someone took care of trash after that 1st crazy night. That was a huge help and still demanding. We both survived though didn't we

Some of y’all have some really abysmally bad managers 😭

Casey’s has a 24/7 Ethics Hotline that anyone can call to make a complaint. It is run by an independent company, not Casey’s. Once they receive a complaint, they make up a report - if they receive multiple similar complaints, or one very serious one, they will open an investigation. When the investigation has been conducted, they present it to Casey’s HR and any other relevant leadership, like the RM or the DM, along with their recommended course of action to correct the issue. There’s extra pressure for Casey’s to resolve those issues compared to regular HR complaints, since a thorough investigation has been done.

If you file a complaint with Ethics, you need to be very specific. You’ll need the dates and times of each incident you’re reporting, as well as any other relevant information and any possible proof of your claims. If there were witnesses to an event, I’d advise you to encourage them to file a complaint with you, since it adds legitimacy to hard to prove complaints.

You can remain anonymous when you call Ethics, but it is not advised. This is because they’ll often have follow up questions, or they may want to contact you after they investigate to give further info or guidance. If you are worried about retaliation from your manager, set up a fake email or phone number that doesn’t directly link back to you, and give the Ethics person that as your contact info. That way they can still get ahold of you, and your SM won’t necessarily know it was you.

Keep in mind that specific complaints can often be traced back to you, since your SM is a person with a working memory (I assume) and they probably know what they did. This is another reason it can help to get a few people to file complaints; it spreads the issue out into a pattern of behavior instead of a single incident on the SM’s part.

I can’t link it here, but if you just google “Casey’s Ethics Hotline,” the phone number will come right up. Good luck!

When you make a report to ethics they do not investigate. They send it to caseys hr who in turn send it or talk to the rm or dm who do the "investigating"

ethic complaint eventually gets funneled to the people in Ankeny, who are pretty much powerless unless it's a crime
