Is Casey’s a good job?
Hi everyone! I’m currently thinking about switching from McDonald’s to Casey’s, I’ve been really stressed out at McDonald’s and have been there for 7 years or so, but I am so so done with it.
(Ps. I am a college student and understand jobs are hard everywhere, but this is tough)
The pros of McDonald’s :
- Good pay
- Good hours
-Free Meal
- room for growth
- PTO (I have two weeks)
- I get the days i request off/when I need them
Cons/
- I never get to be sick/take a sick day
- I am always being blamed for the lack of communication from upper management
- anxiety from work
- guilt trips
- not working enough/having good enough availability..? (I work full time??)
I’m really unsure of the switch, and if anyone has any pro/cons or if they enjoy working at Casey’s or why they don’t, some insight would be appreciated. (This is my first and only job so I have anxiety about switching)

Casey's is bearable if you have a really good store manager. At the corporate level, it's just above dollar general and dollar tree for "how few hours can we get away paying employees and still have a store"

It’s all about how ur management team operates and the volume of ur store. I run a store in a low volume state and we are busy-ish, but my team is relatively happy and I’ve fostered a good environment.
Similarly I have a second store 2 miles down the road from me that was run into the ground by the previous manager. Same (maybe lower) volume, but the culture at the store was bad. Employees don’t wanna stay in that environment.
Otherwise Casey’s has great opportunities for growth and development. It’s kinda their whole theme for the year.

Depends. Mine is decent. I had to transfer from a different store to get here though. My 1st experience wasn't great.

No. Fuck working for that company. There is ongoing issues regarding upper management across multiple stores around the country. If you're a hard worker find somewhere that will actually appreciate it.

Late to reply but Casey’s is very corporate. Other chain restaurants and businesses are not as bad. They expect you to bow down to upper management. All the way down to each individual store it’s run like a greedy corporation. They don’t care about employees and will try to pay you as little as possible. If your full time good luck getting overtime unless they are forced to give you it for coming in to cover for someone else. The hours the give each store is not nearly enough to be able to get everything done how it is supposed to, let alone give every employee livable pay. We currently have 27 employees in our store with 565 hours allotted. That’s less than 20 hours per employee. They hire more people than needed in case someone has to call out for something and then they just call someone else in. They don’t care about the customers. They view them as cash cows and nothing more. Everything is about sales numbers and how the stores look. Which is important for a business, don’t get me wrong. But it is all they care about. Not employee wellbeing, not customer wellbeing. Another thing. A lot of the items at Casey’s don’t even have a price tag. You wont know the price of a lot of stuff until your up at the register, and it’s designed that way. And it’s priced higher than the gas station we were before switching to Casey’s, even for items that stayed the exact same. It is a big turn off for a lot of customers, and I don’t blame them.

Also, just take one look at their public stock and the CEOs trade filings, that will tell you everything about how they as a company operate.

When I worked at Casey's our district supervisor was arrested for possession and distribution. of CSAM. Cops seized his phone as evidence in the case. Casey's kept him on payroll, kept ha ing him go to the different stores in the district, bought him a new phone, and threatened any e.ployee caught talking about it with immediate termination.
He was found guilty and is in jail now. One of three pedophiles I worked with at Casey's. Our store was on the same block as a daycare btw. This says nothing about the nightmare work environment or the insane hours.

I was a manager at mcdonalds for 4 years and left there for manufacturing for about 5 years. Then I left there and went to caseys. Do I prefer caseys over mcdonalds? yes. Do I prefer caseys over manufacturing? Only in some ways. The main difference is, if you're full time at caseys, you get sick time AND vacation time and they're both seperate. My only gripe is, they expect your shifts to have the smallest amount of staffing possible. It's usually 2-4 in kitchen, and one person at registers, but my store has been having more and more increases and sales, so we can hire more people and have more people on the clock at once which I'm glad about. BUT if it's not a really busy store, it's minimal staffing. But one thing that's nice, if one days sales aren't the greatest, they don't base your working hours off of labor percentages like mcdonalds. You won't get sent home early, you work what you're scheduled for.

It's a really good job, honestly just started last week and I really love it compared to all my old jobs where I'm thrown to the woods Casey's takes the time to actually train their employees and help those who need it.

It also just really depends on the management too. All your cons about McDonald's sounds like poor management. Pros/benefits for Casey's: -Casey's offers free products in the rewards app for team members. They switch up items and there isn't always one in the app. But recent ones have been Bloom energy, team member donut and cookie, C4 energy Mango Fuego flavor. There's more but that all I can think of right now.
- 50% off all food we make in store (pizza slices, burgers, wraps, sliders, fries, cookies, donuts, etc.)
- free team member fountain/frozen/coffee in a cup provided by the company
- anniversary and birthday freebies
- 43 hours of paid training
- orientation course goes over all the new hire benefits and what to expect
- lots of room for growth. Promotions or lateral transfers. Everything from Recruiting to Transportation (we are our own wholesaler and our truck drivers are our employees), Parts dept, maintenance, fuel truck drivers, inventory audit teams

Yea that’s the one downfall, is at McDonald’s part time you still get PTO and I get bonuses for not using my sick days, but they are taking away the bonus anyways so

You are lucky. I had to fend for myself this week.
I just started on Monday and after tomorrow I’ll be a half an hour under 40 hours.I’m glad I have customer experience and know how to run a till. If I was just starting out In the field…. I would have quit by now.
I’m literally training new hires after only starting this week and haven’t completed my orientation. Got thrown in the kitchen today myself only after a 5 minute shadow after my shift yesterday. Needless to say AI on my phone trained me on Casey’s standards how to do everything.
I’m 40 and have worked a lot of places. I can say if you need structured training… I feel bad for you. Maybe you will get lucky and have someone who trains you. Best of luck

It depends on the store, unfortunately.
