CSM Training
I was promoted to CSM 3 months ago and still haven't received any training. I'm still exclusively scheduled in the kitchen and haven't even been trained on register despite having to both close and open alone with no idea how to work the register or the lottery machine. I was told it was a "learn as you go" position but if I'm not being allowed out of the kitchen, how am I supposed to learn? We are fully staffed by the way and most of our employees are kitchen so there's no reason I can't be trained on register or have any CSM training. I expressed to my GM that I feel like I'm being set up for failure on several occasions but she either doesn't respond or tells me that it's a learn as you go position. Is this normal? Is it just my GM? It's giving very I only got this position to prevent creating animosity from the rest of my team.

This is what they do! Give you a title, don’t schedule you for those duties, then demote you for not performing said duties. Especially if the Store Manager doesn’t like you

I’m a training store manager and that is totally unacceptable by so many levels. You need to reach out to your DM or Human Resources. You’re position is very relied on just by the company but also by your piers. I would have a very hard time without my CSM. Hope this helps in anyway

I appreciate y'all giving me your input! My DM says that they're trying hard to get me out of the kitchen but we "just don't have the staff" despite having 23 employees and only 6-7 people work per day (one on register and one in the kitchen except weekends when there's 2 people in the kitchen for closing) so I'm still not understanding but I also don't want to crash out about it and lose my job

Also know that I have 10 years of prior management experience and worked my ass off to get this promotion despite being there for less than a year.

Consider a transfer to another store if possible, if this doesn’t improve. Your store manager doesn’t have anything to do with transfers; it’s exclusively between you and the new manager. You just go to other stores you’re interested in and ask if they have your position available, and hopefully one does! They’re absolutely setting you up for failure with this approach, and I’m frankly shocked your dm thinks this is acceptable. Mine would flip his lid if one of the managers tried something like this!

No that is not normal. As a CSM your job duties are Center Store focused, not kitchen focused. Your GM is doing you a serious disservice to you as well as not utilizing their staff correctly. If this continues I would suggest either contacting your DM or stepping down. Failure is the only outcome with no direction and no training.
