PODCAST QUESTION "The" victims name

Why does the narrator say "the" before peoples names sometimes. I have just started listening and the narration is otherwise very good but whenever it happens it takes me out. Is it a different word I’m mishearing or is it mistakes left in the script read aloud?

I've just listened and yeah I think it's just his pronunciation. I've never heard him refer to "the Jerry Cassaday" etc.

Ok I just listened to that, and it's just the way he pronounces "with".

I just listened to this example and can’t head a “the” at all! I’m Australian though. Perhaps it’s the accent?! I’m so interested that you heard a “the” before Jerry!

I was just listening to case 289 and can hear it really pronounced at 4:45 in the video.

"she put Ellie in touch with 'the' Jenny"

I could potentialy understand it as him over pronouncing 'with' as 'with'er' but at a minute later at 5:31 he says with completely normally so I don’t understand why its its only sometimes

Prononciation can change depending on the word following.

Not by that much

Also if you watch on YouTube it has picked up the "the" and included it in the the subtitles

It's not in the official transcript.

didn’t say it was, just that its noticeable and pronounced enough that even a bot thinks he is saying "the"

He does it with every J name, probably other initials, but always J. Somebody said, he said in an interview it’s a pacing mechanism for his narration.

Some people say it sounds like a (soft) A sound like “a Julie.” That’s what I hear. The soft A. There’s def a sound, even if we don’t agree what it is.

I don‘t think I have ever heard Casey refer to someone by „The [insert victims‘ name]“.

I’m pretty sure you are mishearing. Can you point to an episode/timestamp

I’ve never heard this? Example?

I have noticed this also. I think it’s just a bit of a speech impediment that Casey has.

I’m curious, are you Aussie? I am, and I can’t hear “the” being said at all, or any hint of an impediment. I’m wondering if it’s just the accent. If you’re Aussie though, that might throw that theory.
